Hey guys,
What are you all using for headlamps? I have a Tikka plus and few other of similar power. I like the lightweight of the Tikka but I'm looking at headlamps with more power.
Thanks.

Based my personal and limited experiences I stick with the basic headlamps these days and carry a high quality 2AA flashlight when I want a light that penetrates very far.
It seems like the more I spend on a headlamp the less I actually use it in camp and for hiking rocky paths it works much better for me to carry the light lower so the trip hazards cast a shadow.

Once I got this one I quit looking. I like the boost mode and the flood/spot flip lens. I threw all those colored lenses in the trash. It seems to have good battery life. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=L2M01ATUOSOLJLAQBBKSCOFMCAEFAIWE?id=0070572517706a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=1510303&cm_ite=0070572517706a&_requestid=173813 The think the only real step up is to a coon hunting megalight with a three pound battery and a one pound headlamp.

I have had good luck with several different headlamps made by Princeton.

For a backpacking headlamp the Zebra H30-Q5 leaves the plastic junk in the dust. Mine has been flawless so far......... MtnHtr

I recently picked up the Surefire Minimus headlamp. The unit is very well built and can put out an amazing amount of light. I also like the fact that it runs on the CR123 lithium battery. But the price is high, so it is probably not the best value out there.

I like the looks of that Zebra. Reminds me of my ARC light except for the battery.
Just curious, why not go with the AA model?

Black Diamond Spot is a great light. Uses 3AAA and put off a large amount of light, great battery life, and has held up to nasty weather very well.

The Zebra H30 (CR123) model throws a narrower beam than the AA model which I thought would be better for hiking. A little better battery performance as well. I used mine all season and never had to change the battery, was able to use the lowest mode for hiking in the dark. The Zebra rocks........ MtnHtr

I have been using a princeton tec quad for years..its held up pretty well and been reliable for near daily use while deployed ..but recently the one of the AAA batteries corroded and ate the insides up..princeton tec replaced it fairly promptly(3 weeks) but with a different color than the camo one i sent in.. Id like to get another headlamp, can anyone tell me which has the longest battery life and water proof, and any of them made in the U.S? Thanks

I have a $12 Ray-o-vac that has LED, red LED, and incandecent settings that has worked extremely well for me. It's always in the backpack. Near the truck or short trips I have a big Petzl with LED/regular option. The regular option is BRIGHT.
