On our lease, the deer don't seem to be hitting the feeders like they have in the past. I attribute this to the very wet summer=good browse crop. Has anyone else noticed the same thing? Also, we've seen lots more BIG deer tracks than normal.

Acorns, Lots of red oak, pin oaks are loaded, post oaks are light but some. All are falling now. I've had out feeders since the first of Sept. Hit regular until the last two weeks. Acorns are dropping. Now they will come out of habit but will leave corn on the ground and go chase acorns.

Yes, there is still lots of green but acorns are the answer.

You sure you aren't seeing hog tracks? Hard to tell the difference sometimes.

...and we've had no big blow or rain to knock 'em out of the trees, so they're falling slowly. BCR is correct, and they will stay under the oaks until they are gone.

Pedestal, I hear ya. I am hedging my bets a little and have tried giving them some flavorful treats worth coming 'round for. I put out a berry mineral lick - and they have kind of shied away. I added some other feed with my corn. The pelletized types that have a littel aroma to them hoping that might entice them. They started hitting that but not real hard. Dad put out a different lick, one of those softer berry\molassis types and lo and behold they had it devoured in just a few days. My next trick is some of that granular, sweet scented stuff like Beast feast or hog wild. I am hoping dad can get out there and give them a few days getting used to the scent before season opener. If they seem to go for it I will add it to our feeder so the scent will carry when the timer goes off. After seeing how the dove weren't particularly moving around due to the plentiful food supplies I figured I had better do something to motivate the deer in time for season. So, I planted a food plot this year with some no- till stuff and am very pleased to say it is coming in nicely. I tilled a large area lightly by hand and was lucky to get good rain the next day. It isn't very tall yet but it is green and the deer have been visiting it.

We are in the same boat as you. The Deer have not been hitting the feeder like normal. There is alot to eat and they are not having to come to the feeders.

I was out in south west texas a little over a week ago and they have had so much rain that the dee are not coming in to the feeders. The funning thing was that the rancher had put out 1/2 50 gal drums of orange starburst candy for the deer. That is a sight to see them eat that.

You should see them eatting "broken" suckers. Funny as heck watching does running around with lollypop sticks hanging out of their mouths.

No they are not comming to the feeders . The corn is pileing up on the ground . Not even the squirls , rabbits , coons , and crows are eating much of it . Last year was a much different story .
Did not get a deer this opening weekend . Saw a nice buck chaseing a doe but was not fast enough on the draw to get a shot . That was my 1st mistake . The 2nd mistake was leaving my rifle in the blind while makeing a nature call . Would have had an easy 40yd. shot at a nice doe but was caught with my pants down !

I had no luck opening weekend, either. Saw deer, but nothing I'd want to spend a tag on this early in the season. In fact, we've only had 2 deer taken on our lease opening weekend (14 hunters). Pretty much the same story from everyone-does and spikes/forkhorns. And they're still not hitting the feeders.

I hunt in the Centerville area, and the pin oak acorns are everywhere! We have 3 feeders on the place I hunt for supplemental feed only (we don't shoot deer at the feeders) and they really haven't touched the corn. The protein feeders have been hit slightly, and the oat patches slightly if at all. I don't remember such a banner acorn crop in recent years.
Good hunting!
