Hi
I will be travelling to the US soon from Australia for work but will only be in Monterey California. Are there any decent gun / hunting / outdoor stores in that area?
Thanks
Ian

I haven't been to Monterey in the last 8 years, but it is an upscale area that has little interest in outdoor sports (except maybe boating, polo and tennis). However you will be about 50 - 60 miles (aobut 100 Km) from San Jose (check google maps and then google "outdoor stores near San Jose, CA" and a list will come up.
Also, check the local telephone directory (yellow pages) for "camping", "outdoor stores", "gun shops", etc.
You'll need a car.

Outdoor World just a short drive North on Hwy 1 from downtown Monterey. They have some guns and ammo (nothing cheap about their prices) http://theoutdoorworld.com/A little further north there is an REI in Marina. http://www.rei.com/stores/113REI is within 15 minutes (on the highway 1) of Monterey. I don't believe they sell guns, not sure about ammo, but backpacking supplies.

I grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, and all the good gun stores are gone (owners retired or sold out). My "rels" there also shop in Salinas, 20 miles away...jim

http://www.markleysguns.com/index.htmlJust up the road about 30 minutes or so from Monterey. Used to go there after work a lot. Usually have a pretty interesting used rack. I scored my primo Sako AIII Classic there. Nice handgun range, too.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

You need to get out a bit..
Kerley's in Cupertino and Imbert and Smithers in San Carlos are fine gun shops.
Imbert and Smither's always has some gems in the used rack.

Yep on Kerleys. Sportsmans supply on Camden in Campbell used to be good as well. Bear

Don't forget Mel Cotton's on San Carlos St. in San Jose. The Reed's pistol range in Santa Clara also sells handguns, I believe.
