Can you order a replacement stock and forearm from Marlin for a 336RC made say in the early 50's? I have had this one since 1975. Previous owner was a genius and installed sling swivels on it. I could live with the swivels if only he had properly centered the one on the forearm. I would love to have a new set of these for this rifle!

go to Gunparts.com. I think you are just too picky though.

Not really too picky, just hate something old not being right. I have never used a sling on a lever, but it really hasn't slowed this rifle down killing Whitetails and Hogs. I have found later model stocks and forearms but can't seem to find any of the heavier fat ones like are on it. I saw on another thread where someone posted you can order them from Marlin.

Have you thought about removing it and filling the hole? If you're not interested in having a sling this might be better and easier than finding a new one.

Youper,

Yes I have considered that option but I am more afraid of messing it up. I know the rifle is never gonna be a collector but its in perfect shape other than the swivels. I have always enjoyed shooting a lever with open sights however my eyes are not what they used to be and I can only pick up the sights on a good clear day. The top of the receiver is grooved and not tapped for a scope and I have even considered having it tapped and installing a Leupold FX4 to make it more user friendly for myself.

Marlin is not likely to have the forend in stock anymore. You can try:

http://precisiongunstocks.com/
http://macongunstocks.net/index.html

both will have to be fitted and refinished. You will also have to refinish the Buttstock if you want it to match the forend. I would fill the hole and refinish the set. It will give it character earned honestly which is something that appeals to some. IMHO

edit: Great Marlin too...sorry almost forgot!

.

I was about to offer to repair it for you. Then you say that you are going to D&T the receiver? Forget it. I have no interest in altered guns.

I'd put a scope on it and fill those holes.
