For a new rifle that is. My first rifle in fact. I've been lurking here for a bit, researching, etc. There happens to be a gun show in the area tomorrow and I'm going to go try my luck. A 700 mountain rifle in .260 would hit the spot (pun intended)... but if I find a decent M70 Featherweight at a good price, she might be mine. Anyway, just wanted to say Hi! I enjoy the campfire and look forward to spending some time with y'all. P.S., this forum is also a great support group for us college conservatives I'll keep everyone updated and post pics if I come home a daddy. Thanks!

Well no luck today. Couple nice BDLs, but not really great deals. Guess I'll save the extra pennies for a new one. Hopefully have something to report in a few days. Sorry

No problem, you've shown more restraint than I normally can! But, there is NO substitute for getting what YOU want!

Keep us informed! Have you decided on scope or mounts?

Good deals at gun shows are a thing of the past in my neck of the woods. Every once in a while you run into a private seller who lets one go cheap. The dealers are nuts in my book. For a few dollars more you can buy a brand new one and you don't have to wonder why the guy sold it so cheap?? If this is a first buy for you, go for a brand, shiny, new one. You'll be a lot happier at sundown.

Yeah, there was a nice BDL in 7mm mag there, but I want mainly an under 200 yards whitetail gun, so I kept looking. A 7mm mag would certainly do the job, I'm just looking for a bit less recoil and something fun to shoot so I can really develop my skills. This other BDL was .25-06, but was going for $540. But for a little more than that I could just get a brand new CDL in 7mm-08. Anyway, I think I'm leaning toward that mountain rifle in .260 still. Hope to have it by week's end.
Scopes and mounts... thinkin bout Talley lightweights with a Leupold VX-II 1-4X, or maybe a 2-7X. Should make for a nice All-American deer slayer. Appreciate the opinions guys, thanks!
