Been pondering a long range buck and bull gun. Admiring Kampfeld's work, I noticed he had a CZ 550 Lapua with a mcmillan- mchale stock. Thoughts? Thanks.

A CZ 550 in 338 Lapua? What a FANTASTIC idea! A true long range super smacker in a terrific CRF action. Love it. If you buy it and want one, I will send you a copy of the article that I wrote that was put in African Hunter on customizing CZ 550 rifles. Don;t forget to put the varmint shoot I owe you on your calander this year. Still have and enjoy the model 88 in 358 I bought from you last year. Perfect vehicle ridin around big game gun. New thought. if you buy the Lapua, be sure to bring it on the varmint shoot, some of them rodents can get BIG!

George Gardner of G.A. Precision used to use that big CZ action for the .338 Lapua rifles he built. I don't know if still uses them in current rifle builds.

Kinda funny this would come up now. I just had the customer give me a range report on that one yesterday. He has had the rifle a year and finally got the time or nerve to shoot it. He said the worst it would do is .66" and the best so far was a 6 shot group that was .26". That's with only 25 rounds down it. He also mentioned with the big muzzle brake the recoil was about like his 243 Win. He was very pleased and had no regrets going with the CZ 550.

Thanks for chiming in Karl!! I've been drooling over that rifle on your page for some time now. Thanks for the report.

Better git you one!
See you in April, I hope.
PS If you don't have one by then we can play with my 1917 in 338/8mmRemMag a bit. Similar in many respects, 225 TTSX's at 3200.
