Depending on what you want to spend. You could go with the old stand by leupold 3x9x40 or alot of people here like the straight 6x leupold. If it were mine I put my favorite scope on it, a leupold 4.5x14x40. Just my opinion. Dink

hope you don't plan to sit with that thing on your lap! I had one and it used to put my legs to sleep! Mine wore a 2.5 x 10 x 50 Kahles american (1 inch dia) back in the day, still have the scope.

Dink: You have hit this one right on the head! The Leupold 4.5x14 variable would be a wonderful enhancement to the accuracy potential of that Remington Rifle. Based on first hand experience I rate the Leupold 4.5x14 with A/O as being one of the BEST all around scopes I have ever Hunted with and I have Hunted with dozens of DOZENS of different scopes! Best of luck with your new rig and be sure to let us know how it shoots. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Hey Tex,
I've hunted with my LTR quite a lot over the last five years. It wears a Nikon Tactical 2.5-10x on a Tactical Precision Systems rail and TSR ring set. Not the lightest scope in the world, but great optics and very rugged.
While I am extremely pleased with my setup and have no plans to change it, I'd suggest waiting a few weeks until after the SHOT show and see what new products are coming out before you buy.

I have 2 LTRs. One has a Zeiss Conquest 3x9 and the other has a Leupold MK4 6.5x20. Both are fine rifles. If want to see the potential of a LTR try some Federal Gold Metal Match 175s. Not a good hunting bullet. If you handlosd try the Sierra Gameking or the Hornady SST. I use the bigger scope from box stands and the Zeiss for climbers. Both rifles are sub MOA to 400.

I outfitted a remington VLS in .308 for my brother to deer hunt with not long ago. It wears a zeiss 3-9X50 conquest and he shoots Hornady's 168grain A-MAX and we get group sizes well under a half-inch (holes can be completely covered with a dime) very easily with it. The Zeiss offers amazing clarity and light transmission and they are quite rugged as well.

Hi Tex,
Been away for awhile, so I didn't see your message. Never shot any factory ammo, but I don't see how you could go wrong with Fed GMM or Black Hills.
I've shot a bunch of mule deer, antelope and whitetails with the 168 grain A-max. Out of my LTR they go 2600 fps, and I've only recovered 1 of them. That was a 50 yard broadside shot that went through both shoulders of a big WI whitetail and was bulging the hide on the far side. It expanded a bit more than double caliber, but retained about 60% of its weight.
Most shots have been from 250 - 450 yards on mulies and antelope, and all bullets exited. I wouldn't normally recommend a match bullet for hunting, but I shoot the LTR so much with that bullet and with the "reasonable" velocities of the LTR on light game, have had excellent performance. The 165 Hornady SST shoots very well too if you'd be more comfortable with a heavier constructed bullet. Heck, I haven't found a bullet in the 155 - 168gr range that it hasn't shot well!
Good luck,
BT

I think im going with the 2.5-8 leupold or the zeiss 3x9 40 conquest the 2.5-8 Leupy is a nice choice for an LTR. I put one with M1 turrets on my 20.5" 308. It's enough to hit steel at 1000 yards.

I also have an LTR. I'm just in the process of picking up a new scope for it myself. I have a Burris 4.5-14 on it, and, although I love the scope, it seems really bulky for the rifle. I'm purchasing a Bushnell 10x40 for paper punching and steel for now. I have also been looking at the Burris 3-9 Tactical. I also shoot the 168 A-Max out of mine with very good results on targets, deer, and antelope. Nice rifle MontanaMarine. BP

I've got a pile of parts waiting to be build into something very LTR-ish. I'm going with one of the old Mk4 PR-series 3.5-10x40 Leupolds with the 1" tube and capped target turrets. They pop up from time to time on the used market.
Now with even more aplomb

Im going with the zeiss conquest 3-9x40. Trying to decide what rings and bases to use. Im thinking egw 20 moa base and burris extreme tactical rings. any input on this would be appreciated

I shouldn't criticize the Leupold 4.5-14 as I've got my third on the way, but I'd take a look at the VXII 4-12. It's actually one of my favorite Leupolds with my no.1 pick being the 3.5-10. That'd be the route I'd go if your looking at 200 yards max.

I thought your shots would be relatively close. Unless you're going to be shooting long range a lot you probably won't want a 20 moa base.
