Well, I don't have a 450, so no load info, but I will say I am not one of the folks who dismiss the 450. I have been trying to convince most that it does have it's place in the shooting world.
Its a fine cartridge, and should be given a chance to survive. I think it will live a lot longer than most think. The NEF single shot rifle is available in 450, and i once read at sixgunner.com that Winchester should be chambering the 450 as well. ~~~Suluuq

It is interesting that the Marlin 450 could be in the same position that the 45/70 is in. The Marlin 450 is essentially an American 458x2. Some one is going to want to chamber the Marlin 450 in a short bolt action. The factory Marlin 450 ammo will be loaded to 40,000 while a bolt action can handle 60,000 to 65,000. Hence, again it will be a reloading proposition to realize the potential of the Marlin 450. But I guess there are alot of Ruger No. 1s and 3s, and a few Siamese Mausers around which can get all the 45/70 can offer. The 450 Marlin is a good round, I just wish one could get one in short action bolt in a 22" barrel. A Marlin MR7? Just another worthless observation.
[This message has been edited by jackfish (edited March 20, 2001).]

Considering the 450, the only time this 'trapdoor-effect' can happen to the 450, is when both the arms makers and ammo makers produce a 450 bolt action and the ammo comes in stronger loads.
I seriously doubt the 450 will ever be offered in a stronger pressured load, as it was designed with SAAMI specs for about 40,000 some odd pounds. It may be offered in a bolt action, but ammo would likely stay 40,000. And only when some ammo company ups the pressure, and some arms maker produces a bolt action, then the problem arises.
If the 450 stays a levergun round, then no problems at all. ~~~Suluuq

Swampfox: You can get the die set direct from Hornady. I think I paid $37, but that was a few months ago, and I'm not sure. As for the brass, I just save what I fire of the factory brass for now, so far just 80 pieces. I havn't started to reload yet either.
Phil
