I did a search and didn't find anything so I'm gonna go ahead and ask it...

Which would you prefer and why? And for arguments sake let's say in .308

I am sure that the Tikkas shoot and function just fine, but I cant bring myself to like all that plastic and 1 action size. I would go Remington.

tough call, but if price could be the same, I shure like the feel of the 700 CDL (classic's I think they are) over the Tikka. But with the difference in price I might just take the tikka. I wouldn't touch the rem. SPS's. I just hate the way they feel. Tikka is probably going to be a bit more accurate but the remington is much more versatile if you ever want to upgrade stocks, or do any customizing to later.

in my experience tikkas are way more likely to shoot better than a remington. if you don't mind a clip, don't even think about it TIKKA!!! the tikkas I have messed with are very well put together even using the stock scope rings and mounting setup yields a very straight mounting setup,

tikkas are all long actions, so personally I see no benefit in going with the 308, use the long action and go 30-06, my blued 30-06 is my most accurate rifle if you picked a random load for it and a random load for my customs, it may be my most accurate rifle I just have never ladder tested it, when you can agg .5" groups with 4 different bullets and 3 different powders, to me that is knock your socks off accuracy from a 6.5# rifle.

I vote Tikka for out of the box accuracy and price. The action is buttery smooth too. Dont think you could beat one for the money.

My A7 Sikka is giving the ADL Horse rifle a run for it's money.

It's lighter and shoots just about as well.

The ADL is easier to 'hit' with though.

Sam, why is the ADL easier for you to hit with? Weight?

Side note, I'd go T3 over the 700 and as long as I've been running Glocks I don't mind the plastic.

I like the Tikka for what it is. The Remington may be better for what it can be - given a lot of after market stuff. I just don't like getting a rifle and then having to spend a lot of money to get it where I want it to be. The Tikka does all I want from the box.

Yeah Dober, the extra weight(about a full lb more) seems to help. That and it's just a more 'familiar' rifle, so far...

I say toss up between the two!
(I'm taking the A7 home next week for 'yotes though)

There ya go. You can spend (and I have) thousands on a 700 to get you where a Tikka already is. And if you can get it in a Lam./SS, well, better yet...

Tikka, because when the safety is on, the bolt is locked down. I don't like bolts that can be opened if they are snagged on a limb or brush.

Plus my Tikka's bolt throw is a hell of lot smoother than my son's 700 SPS.

Out of the box accuracy in my .308's with factory 168gr loads is dime size groups at 100yds.

My Remington 700 8x57mm shoots great (less than a quarter size groups with factory Win ammo) BUT my Remington 700 in .257 Roberts is a mystery, as to what the group will look like at 100y no matter what bullet weight, factory and handload (it is just back from the factory for a checkout, was 'lapped' is the only detail on the invoice, haven't tried it at the range yet).

The only negative I have with the Tikka is the safety, on or off, bolt cannot be opened with the safety on to empty the chamber. That consideration is based on hunting with my son's, both have Tikka lites in .308. Accurate and light weight with durable stocks and weather finish barrels.

It took me several years to try a Tikka, I have now sold my Rem 700's and Ruger 77's hunt with Tikka's

* Shoot better out of the box
* a T3 .270 win with talleys and Leupold fx-II 6x36 is under 7 lbs.
* cost less

Have .270, 30-06, 300 wsm, 7 RM and 35 Whelen (was a .270) all shoot great!
