Today was a very happy day for two of us. My son got his first deer while I watched a few feet away. It was nice 100 yard shot to the back of a field. He was shooting a Remington 700 .243 that was glass bedded by Sitka Deer. Looking through a Leupold 2.5x8 scope, George picked out the largest of three does and made his first one shot kill. I have waited a long time for this moment. All of you fathers know what i am talking about. So just for today- George and I are happy with his victory. His deer was a little bit larger than the one I got yesterday. So he has bragging rights and is strutting like a little rooster.

Congratulations to your son, nice to see them do well. You obviously made sure and taught him well, good for him. I guess Sitka must have known a bit about bedding rifles.

Of all my hunting memories, none are better, or more important than the ones where my boys each got their first deer.
Nice looking deer, I'm surprized it succumbed to a lowly 243 win (just kidding, it still is the rifle of choice of my youingest).

Fantastic Sir and congrats to your son. That is one of the memories that never fade.

I'm guessing the move to ol' ND wasn't too bad after all. Great job by both the hunter and his Dad, congrats!

Huntress- George is 14 and still has his head on right.
My 15 year old declined to go deer hunting because he wanted to meet with a couple of young ladies. Hate to lose him at such an early age. To even think that young ladies are more exciting than deer hunting.
So for now the young one and i are having a great time. 10 more days of vacation and three deer tags left to go.

Sheesh! Where do you think he went wrong?! Not to worry, though... there's a Biblical precedent for a prodigal son seeing the error in his ways and returning home to his father's open arms. I'm sure it's just a matter of time!!

Excellent! I hope to be experiencing the same feelings as a father in a couple of weeks.
