Nolser 140 AB's & 140 BT's, Barnes 140 TSX all with 56-59 grains of RL-22 depending on your gun.
120 Nosler BT's & 120 Barnes TSX with either RL-15 or RL-22.
Try 50-52 grains of RL-15 & 60-61 grains of RL-22.
160 Nosler Partitions or 160 Speer Grand Slam & around 56 grains of RL-22.
As per usual, start low on powder charges & work up.
I've had outstanding results with all combos above in several 280's.

I loved 140 Ballistic tips with 59 gr RL 22 for deer. But a great load that shot really well in my Ruger, and is great for elk too, is the 175 Mag Tip on 55 gr of 7828 producing 2650 fps. Really like that load, even though it's not a sexy bullet.

I like 140 BT with 57 gr RL19 and 150 BT with H4831 or RL22. There was a article in Handloader called "Handloads That Work" that listed 58gr of H4831 with a 150 gr. This is my go to load for the 280.

139gr Hornady SSTs and 57gr IMR 4831 gave me 3000fps and 1" or less groups for three shots at 100 yards.
139gr Hornady SP Interlocks and 53.5gr of H-4350 gives just under 2900fps (can't remember exact vel) and averaged close to 1/2" groups at 100 yards.
This is out of a Ruger M77 Mk II with a 22" bbl. R-P hulls and WLR primers. The standard work up to this load warning applies.

My 280 elk load includes 55 grains of Re 19 and the 160 grain Partition. It has worked fine.
I may try the 140 grain Barnes sometime this year.

Good choice on rifle and cartidge. I settled on the 160gr. Nos. Partition out of my .280AI for everything. But, if I started over I'd likely go with the Accubond in the same weight. In my AI I'm using IMR7828 but in the .280 I like H4831. The reality is that any good bullet in the 140-160gr range will do just fine.

My favorite loads are 55-57 gr of IMR-4831 or 59-60 gr of H-4831 with with 139 Hornady or 140 Nosler Ballistic Tip. I normally get around 3000 fps in 22-23" barrel. I also like 56-57 gr of IMR-4831 with 150 Nosler Partion for around 2900 fps.

Yep...22".
No pressure signs w/this load, but she's probably MAX based on MV.
