I, at auction, scored handsomely at this rifle - a Brno ZKK 600 in 7x57 Mauser.



I added the Weaver K2 scope in Warne Maxima QD Rings for the grooved 19 mm Receiver.



If I can work out the details, a Leupold 3x M8 has been offered to me by a meber of 24 hour campfire, destined for this rifle.

I have been on the look out for such an action for years for they come with a twist - the neatest fully adjustable, fold down peep sight and the grooved receiver.

The outfit weighs 8,3 pounds unloaded and balances perfectly.

That trigger feels funky, too. I think, they meant it to be some safety feature. You have to take up the slack of the turret much like in a Glock before you reach the breaking point.

Whatever, the rifle came with a normal replacement trigger that I have not yet installed.

Yep, thats the rifle I told you about. Was very lucky at thet auction. Very good price for a vitually vergin rifle. Even came with that new trigger and a certificate from the factory.

I like the gun...love the caliber. Great score at the auction.

It's a set trigger. Push it forward and it will be "set", so only a light pull will touch it off. My brother has a BRNO just like it in 30-06.

Thanks for sharing the photos of your new acquisition with us. Its good to see that it has already proven to work OK.

As Mr. msj348 says, the trigger looks to be the set trigger that came standard on that model of rifle that we saw here in Canada, perhaps 25 years ago or thereabouts. If memory serves, I thought that they felt a little "mushy" when used unset, but certainly not unusable. A set trigger on a fine European rifle in a classic cartridge has certain panache to it though, does it not?

As you noted they usually came with a non-set version as well. I always meant to pick one up and a 7x57 would be a very fine choice indeed, but somehow I haven�t yet. They always appeared to me to be very well made with good internal machining even on the ones from the era which had less polish on the outer finish.

By the way, I love the scope choices you�ve made. I have a soft spot for the look of straight tubed scopes. On some rifles they just look �right� to me.

thank you for the kind remarks and the notice towards the trigger type.

The trigger, even when not set on this rifle is very crisp.

Steelhead and I were discussing not so much the 'set trigger' mechanism but the lever feature, which does feel a little wierd to me.

I pretty much am a aperture sight or low power scope kind of guy.

I like the way how so equipped rifles carry and handle and do not feel much hindered in the type of hunting I do.

Note to self: Change scope mounting screws of Leupold 3x to those tamper proof screws from a locksmith before visiting Carl in Germany.

Does the safety work backward on that model? Just curious...

It is quite beautiful, and I've had 7x57's around the house since about 1975, though the only one we have at the moment belongs to my wife, a Mk 10.

I have a 3X Leupold or five, too... .

And, oh the HORROR! A rifle that weighs over 8 lbs? Can mere mortals even drag it on their hunt? No wonder only one of the mighty Aryan race could hope to bear it . Sorry, lost control for a moment there, what with all the oz counting and skeletonizing of rifles that goes on here at the 'Fire .

As per the rifle, I have been looking for old ZKK aorund here for years with no luck. I really like the slimmer stock as compared to the new 550's, and the built in Peep is remarkable. As others have stated, you have good taste in glass. Nice Rig!

Side note: Any one know if a ZKK stock will fit a 550?

I picked that exact rifle in 7x57 this past summer sans pop-up peep - unfired. I LOVE that rifle!! It is extremely accurate with Hornady 154 roundnose bullets and 170 grain Sierra RN and Sierra 160 spire points and 160 Partitions. They all shoot less than 1 inch at 100 yds. The 154s into less than 1/2 inch for 3 shots!!!!!!!!!!! IMR 4350 powder. Did I mention I LOVE that rifle. I also picked up an unfired (or very, very close) 7x57 FN Supreme but I haven't shot it yet.

There was a thread on that very trigger on the gunsmithing forum and the rifle was for sale on the classifieds.

yes that safety is backwards. I do not find that detrimental, however. Much like cocking a levergun. Never found myself pushing there, either.

never felt to be to mighty or anything like that. More of a hobbit myself. That rifle handles and balances just peachy at 8, 3 pounds as is. Feels right. The glass certainly helps.
