Gentlemen,
I have a prepaid Christmas Gift to pick out for myself that is ear marked for a Digital Camera. Though I think the death threat not to buy "another gun" was likely a bluff...

Have been looking strongly at the Canon EOS 20D with the 17-85mm IS Lens, and 580 EX flash... Is there anything else out there in this price range($2K) that is worthy of consideration?

I looked strongly at the Leica Digilux 2, however, It seems like a lot of money for a Leica Lens and Panasonic Body. I'm a Leica Slut, however, I dunno on digital cameras...

Regards, Matt.

I got the exact stuff as you list BUT with the 10D when it first came out at about the same price. I got the camera, 580 flash, MR-14EX flash, two Canon lenses (EF50 f/2.5 CM with coupler and a EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III), a Canon 2X coupler, and two 256K flash cards. The extra lens and Macro stuff (coupler and flash) drove the price up but what the hay it was a birthday gift from me to me. I really like it a lot as I do all my Canon cameras (I have 5 35mm Canons now). One of the things I really enjoy is taking pictures of mushrooms and fungi. The macro stuff is for that mostly but it gets used on shooting hobby stuff also. I would expect that I'd also like the 20D Maybe for next Father's Day.

Matt,

The Canon 20D has taken the British photgraphy seen by storm and is getting rave reviews.

It is a real improvement on the 10D (not that the 10D was bad) and I think these improvements put it well ahead of the Nikon D70...But no doubt Nikon will bring out a new model to match/improve over the 20D if you care to wait.

I am certainly looking at the 20D, but its a lot of money so I might just wait untill the New Year and wait for the price to come down in the Sales...

Regards,

Pete
