The IBS has just approved a 1-year trial for an AR-15 class for Benchrest competition. I hope this takes off and if it does you will see some amazing AR's get developed.

I got a BR forend for mine... I use it for load testing on new tubes before I put them on a mainline service rifle.

A very nice wide 3 inch flat wood bottom thats poly slick finished, rides the bags really good.

But then we'll see a resurgence in slow twist barrels since its a short range game for light flat base bullets... 12 will be coming back if not 14.

Hi rost495

I am going to pick a forend and a rear piece as well to square up the rear stock.

If it's an open class I have a 6PPC set up that would be interesting, I need to research more to find out all the rules and what not.

The big advantage of AR15 BR is the costs shoud be a bit lower than a traditional Bolt gun -- You can spend 1,500 for just an action, for that money someone can build a complete AR15.

Duh.. never thought about the buttstock... I'd suspect I could rig that up pretty easy too....

Post a link to the rules if/when you have them.

I just bought my first AR15 and as soon as I pulled it out of the box I realized bench testing was the first obstacle I needed to address. I reload for everything and shoot off a bipod or front bag with the buttstock on my shoulder will not cut it.

An A2 stock is probably the easiest fix for me but not for BR competition in my opinion. Modifying an A2 stock to a flat bottom should be pretty easy though.

I've been able to shoot 1.5 inch 5 shot groups at 600 off a bench with an A2 setup like a service rifle but with a scope on it for load testing, but you have to learn to do it right. Its not conductive to it.

The front end is an easy solution and the buttstock sure should be easy to adapt.

Check out the above website, this company's new AR15 BR stuff looks good and price seems fair.

Interesting rules. I think my F-class AR would work nicely. Now I have to go find some clips for it. Where do I find those?

FTR, I am thinking there is a fellow over on snipershide that was selling some P-mags that had been converted to 10 rounders. I will try to dig it up for ya.

Jummy, I am just kidding. The AR-15 uses magazines, not clips. You can use clips to load the magazines, but you can't fire clips in an AR-15.

I have magazines of various capacities and makes, including 5-round, 10 round, 20 rounds and 30 rounds. But they are all magazines. I also have clips to load the magazines, but I never use those. I like my Lula tool.

At any rate, I would use one of my sleds and not fire from a magazine; I can tell you that the first and last shot of a magazine will print to a different point from the remainder of the cartridges. You may not see this in anything but F-class or BR, but it's there. Better to fire from the same feed mechanism every time.
