They are due February 9th. And since there is no online system, you had better hurry up and get that app in the mail today or Monday.

Arizona has better odds than most other states because you have to buy a $150 nonrefundable hunting license. Plus, it's a bonus system, not a preference system, so there is always a chance of drawing. Nonresident elk license is $595. So you'd be out $750. No doubt you'd spend close to $2K in the end driving out from Texas, but that's the case nearly everywhere you'd elk hunt from Texas.

When I got drawn for elk in 2004 I only had 4 pts, I think the tag price back then was $380 ish iirc. With the economy the way it is I think now is the time to be putting in for this state. They already have my apps. BTW Here is my 2004 only 4 bonus pt elk.

I'll just hunt them up the hill for $50, but good luck to you guys who are applying. Just got the Colorado goat and sheep apps. Looking forward to perusing those a bit.

I've hunted Arizona elk before- just it was 1994, seems like forever ago. Excellent opportunities there.

Which I'd get part of back. If that was all, I'd do it, but it isn't. The 2K to which I'm referring is the $150 application cost over the 15-20+ years I can expect to wait before drawing. When you look at the applicants with more points than I, that's realistically what it will take (assuming everyone stays in the pool and the fees don't go up). Add the $600 tag and my 2K estimate is closer to three. It is actually not quite that bad because I can split the license fee 3 ways (Elk, Lope, Deer) but as far as value goes, there are much better deals out there.IMO. Plus, I'd have to buy a bigger house to display a B&C Elk. : )

I am not 100% sure, but I THINK if you fill out the portion of the application to buy a licesne with the application, you do not have to buy a license if you do not draw!

That's the way it used to be, but for a few years now, you 'must' buy a license just to apply, res or nonres. No refunds for that.
Waiting for a premium tag will cost a couple thousand in license fees and then the tag fee when drawn. Even at 3000.00, that would be cheap for the quality of elk hunted compared to ranch hunts at 6000.00 that don't even compare to public hunts here. The waiting would be bad though, anything can happen in 15 yrs.
Good luck to those that apply.

Puttin in for Bull on all 5 choices even though most units are filled after the second round (so 3 - 5 are never available). First two choices are ML rut hunts while the last three are late season general hunts. Worse comes to worse, I get another 2 points to try again next year. I can't spend my existing points on a cow hunt. Last September during my cousins archery hunt, I saw some quality bulls. I was able to call in one but had no archer to take advantage. Called in another one later that day, but that booger was so sneaky only one of us in the party of 4 saw him and he was the other non-shooter. This is what I'm looking for =)

Good luck
1st choice here is 10 rifle rut 2nd is 9 rifle rut. Tom, If you hunted in 2004, you would not have max BP, which are required for a NR to draw those two hunts. The 10% NR cap is met during the 20% bonus pass for those trophy hunts. Doug
