I agree completely. As for the 22-250, others clearly disagree; however, I wouldn't choose the 22/250 at all. Will it work? Yes. However, .22 is pushing the limits for big game, even small big game like antelope. Before some idiot jumps down my throat, look above where I said it will work.

Brad,

Excellent avatar photo. Tom seems to not recognize Edward Weston. Edward was a truly special voice in modernist photography with a genuine vision for style, simplicity and boldness. I've especially enjoy his landscapes and nudes wink and also really enjoy his vegetable photography, namely Peppers! Have you seen the comparison of his vegetables to nude women? Truly wonderful.

Have a fantastic weekend!

I'd turn this around on you - you pick the one you have the most confidence in, as they will all do fine for shooting a 'lope.

If somebody offered you a hundred grand if you could hit a Coke can, first shot, right now, no sighters, no nothing, at 200 yards - which one would you choose? That's the one I'd take hunting. Practice between now and then, stop "testing", and build more confidence.

Yes I do love them and I use them in my Mashburn, 338/06 and my 340.

Buffy-my 223 is a 12 twist and it shoots the 53 TSX well.

The last couple of 14 twist 22/250's I worked both shot the 53 TSX incredibly well also. I've yet to find a 14 twist 22/250 that wouldnt shoot the 53 TSX and or the 63 Sierra or 60 Horns and they'll all do well on big game.

Any caliber you mentioned is excellent..If they have been hunted hard and are spooky then I would opt for the 300 with 200 gr. bullets that buck the prarie winds...

My favorite pronghorn rifle where I hunt them just South of town is a 6x45 with a 75 gr. GS Customs HP...and a 25-35 would work most days.

Gimme the 6mm tossing 85g TSX's all day long ... not that there's anything wrong with the quarter-bore.

For reference, here's what a 6mm 85g TSX will do to a 'lope buck at 400+ yards, started at a MV of roughly 3400fps ...

Note that exit hole is considerably larger than 6mm's ... (grin)

I really don't think that the bullet diameter really is that important to the kill. Most anything from a .243 to a .375H&H that you can shoot accurately 1/4 mi, should take one nicely. I have a nice Ruger #1 in .270WBY and a SS/SYN 7mmWSM for bad weather that I would probably use. Good luck.
