excuse me if this has been covered before. I just purchased a 22 magnum in a Savage model 93. With the one brand of ammo the store had in, Rem hollow points, it shoots very well.
What other ammo should I try with an eye to cost, accuracy and performane on ground squirrels, prairie dogs?

Thanks

Fred

Winchester Dynapoints shoot well for me and are less expensive.

Maybe not the least expensive @ $11.99/50 but I get great accuracy (1 5-shot ragged hole at 50yds and 3/4" @ 100yds) and great terminal ballistics out of my CZ 452 using CCI 30gr vmax.

In my 22 Magnum Browning LH T-Bolt the Hornady 30 gr V-Max and the original Federal with the 30 Sierra are tack drivers. I also had two Savage 93 LH but gave one to my son and the other to my hunting buddy and both really liked the Winchester Black Box Supreme.

I shoot the Win JSP. I cant recall the price, but they shoot very well. Seems like one of the gun rags did a 22 mag ammo review a year or so ago. One thing that stuck out was the Dyna Point upset like a big game bullet. A perfect little mushroom. When I shoot up this brick I'm gonna try some of them.

I really like the Armscor 40gr JHP, shoot holes touching in my CZ and Browning BPR.

The Remington 38gr are not as consistently accurate in both of these rifles.

I always have a place for plain ole Winchester 40 gr. JHP's but the Hornady stuff shoots real well and kills well too in the couple of 22 mags I've tried it in.

Is PMC .22 mag ammo still available? I bought a bunch of it CHEAP, several years ago and am starting to run low. It shot very well in my 9422M.

Each .22 mag rifle, in my experience, is a law unto itself as far as ammo prference goes. Each one, even within the same brand and model, likes a certain type of ammo and I have never been able to predict which. My Marlin 882 likes Win 40 gr HPs as well as the Win Supreme HPs. It does not seem to like any of the other, higher-priced ammo with the various premium bullets. My Win 9422 likes the CCI "green" ammo and just about anything loaded with V-Max type bullets in the 30-35 gr weight. My buddy's Savage with a heavy barrel seems to like the 50 gr Federal ammo. My brother's old Mossberg Chuckster likes CCI 40 gr HPs.

Buy a box of each, as you can afford to, and try them out.
