I was hoping to catch a couple die hard fans of the 7 Weatherby. It seems this round never got the love it deserved. Feel free to talk about the 7 Weatherby...Love to hear stories afield!

I had one for years. It was a EuroMark. And it was a beautiful rifle. But I was frustrated with it. I shot some different factory loads. And a good bit of reloads, but could not get the rifle to shoot. So I was pretty disgusted with it. Then I loaded up some 175 grain Sierra hunting bullets. And man did that baby tighten up. I shot a good bit of deer with that rifle, and it was devastating on deer. My longest shot ever was 625 yards. But I will admit it was a lucky shot at the time. I would not have even shot at the deer if he had not been crippled.
I have owned a few other Weatherby cartridges over the years. And what I learned about Weatherby rifles is that they tend to like the large for caliber bullets. Tom.

No, but I'm fond of the .270 Weatherby.

I like the big 7 but I like the .264 WM better.

An Army buddy of mine at Fort Stewart had one -- he shot 140 grain factory loads - it was like lightning on those georgia deer. He was always grinning when he pulled the trigger.

Used it for years and with the advent of TSX bullets, the 140gr is a real killer. jorge

IMHO .... could very well be the one rifle/cartridge to have when you're having only one.

I`ve just had mine for a few months...my first Magnum...really like it. Killed a Mi. buck this fall using 168 JLKs. The JLK bullet shoots exceptionally well in this rifle, as does the 162 A-Max. I recently purchased another from a forum member..awaiting it`s arrival.
Got lucky this past wkend at a gun show...90 pieces of Rem brass for 45 bucks, most primed and unfired.

Have an older Vanguard (1980's), this was when the only difference between a Vanguard and a Mark V, was the amount of lugs on the bolt. This rifle is just "spooky" accurate, and has put alot of meat in the freezer. The 7mm mag. deserves all the respect available for a "do all" cartridge. I am constantly on the look out for another in the same age catagory.Awesome rifle,,after all "it is a Wheatherby".

I could enjoy a 7 Wby in a rebarreled M70 rifle.

I'm still a big fan, have a S/SS rem 700 chambered in 7wthby, have used it a lot for white tails, muleys and antelope. Super accurate and easy to shoot. This cartridge never got a lot of love-I'm guessing because for some time (other than a custom) it was only available in Weatherby rifles. I don't think there is much "majic" beyond a 7rem mag but it has some history and you can push it a bit more than the Rem mag with handloads. I'm keeping mine...:)

When I used to load a lot for my 7mm Wby. I was impressed by the very low ES and SD numbers I noted while chronographing. It wasn't touchy as loads topped out either.

I got one on a rem700 off the classifieds here last year. load development was easy, its a shooter, doesn't kick too hard..haven't tried it on game yet, but I am very open to becoming a fan!I also Got 80 pieces of virgin wby stamped brass, all in the original old box with the tiger on it, out of the classifieds for 40 bucks!!
I've used the 270,300 and 30-378 wby for a long time, but the weight to power ratio of the 700 7 wby may become my favorite of the bunch..

Absolutely! Cool topic, partner! Boddington did an article several years ago on this underrated, underappreciated cartridge.....and I bought a WBY SuperBigGameMaster (now named the UltraLightweight) to replace my 7mm Rem Mag. I'm a 7mm fan, but wanted something a little more unique. Just gotta be a little different. Love it!!! I shoot the 160 gr Accubond pushed by 70 grs RL22 in Norma or WBY cases, Fed 215M. Scope = Leupold VX-III 4.5-14 AO heavy duplex in Talley rings and bases. Shoots sub 1"....haven't chrono'd it. It thumps a little due to 6 3/4 pound rifle. 26" bbl. This is now my muley rifle, and here is the last buck it tipped over in Utah at 162 yards in his bed from 162 yards. Complete chest penetration. I posted this buck here before..... and no I'm not bragging....just contributing here.

I can't see using the huge Mark V action for anything shorter than a 300; I wish they would chamber the 257 in the smaller 6 lug version. Personally, the 340 is my favorite.
