Im going to be buying a 338 win mag hear soon and i have had the hardest time trying to figure out what gun im going to get it in. first it was the Ruger hawkeye, then it was the x-bolt and now im thinking of the weather warrior. I have handled all 3 and truthfully they all feel good. im a little worried about the ruger because i havent heard really good things about it accuracy. im thinking of getting it in the savage weather warrior with the accustock and adjustable muzzle break on it. i would us the muzzle break when im at the range and when im hunting i would turn it off. i also would put a zeiss conquest 3-9x40 on it. what do you think of this gun to shoot shoot 0-600 yards?

most of my shots wil be from 25- 250 yards with the occasional 400-500 yard shot. i proble will never shoot 600 yards truthfully.

I wouldn't have a 338 Win Mag with any sort of break, just not needed for me. That said, I have Ruger MKII 338 that is my serious rifle. One thing I like about the Rugers is the reputation, which matches my experience, in being super dependable and hammer tough! That rates quite highly for me. Phil Shoemaker has reported on their dependability/toughness as well and I doubt any of us are ever going to put as much pressure on a rifle in a decade as he does in one season. So, in the end the reputation for toughness of the Ruger over the other two models you list would greatly sway MY decision on which to pick. My Ruger will keep 3 shots inside 1.5" at 100yds, which I feel is more than accurate enough for a big game rifle. YMMV...

Get the Ruger and be done with it. +1. Want a tough one get a stainless M77 with the boat paddle stock and put an after market recoil pad on it. They're tougher than woodpecker lips.

Having a batch of Rugers, I like them a lot..
I have one Savage 116 Weather Warrior...
however if I have to replace any rifles in a particular caliber, I'd replace them with the Savage over the Ruger..
I look at the Savage as more of a "field rifle" over the Rugers I own..

I love them. The only thing I hate is not being able to get one in 375 Ouch & Ouch!

I've got one in a 270 and like it a lot. Shoots slightly less then MOA with Federal Blue Box and better with a Nosler BT reload. Very rugged gun that I don't mind getting wet, dirty or scratched up.
