There is a very long story behind this picture which I have told in the past but I think it is worth "re-telling":

My Aunt Susan told my Mother that a certain Memphis newspaper had published a picture of Uncle "TeeDee" when the Memphis Belle was flown back from OK to Memphis. He was the navigator on the last flight. She even copied a pic of the article. Fast forward a few years.

Somehow or another I ended up sending Tim_in_TN a stock for a SA Remington and he repaid the gift with an invite to hunt antelope in NM (bout 5 years ago). During our conversations he told me he lived on a certain street in Memphis. The name of the street seemed familiar just couldn't remember why. A few weeks prior to going on the hunt I mentioned to Mom that I was going antelope hunting with a friend from the Campfire. She asked where he was from and I told her "Memphis", she remarked that it was ironic I had met someone from there since she had spent the greater part of her life there. Mom asked where he lived and I relayed the street name. Dead silence. I asked if she was OK and she replied: "Yes". She then proceeded to tell me that the street Tim_in_TN lived on was where Aunt Susan had lived for 20 or so years! At that point I just didn't know what to think.

Fast forward another month or so. Hunt went off without a hitch, I had a wonderful time finally meeting Tim face to face and another member (bucknbass). During our get to know each other talks, etc. I told Tim he lived on the same street where my Aunt lived and that as a child I had visited Aunt Susan. He was amazed as well. During those few days I also mentioned to something about the picture in the newspaper.

Some months later after many attempts to obtain a copy of the original picture for Mom (who had recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer), I called Tim to see if he knew of anyway to get a copy. He matter of factly said that one of his best friends worked at the paper and a copy would be obtained post haste.

He delivered as promised, I made numerous copies for our family. It was a treasure to my Mother. Why? Because Uncle "TeeDee" was so special to her and happened to be her favorite Uncle.

Mom had that picture next to her bed the day she died.

By the way Mom's birthday is 11/22. Date of her death? 9/11

Coincidence? I think not. She always had a flair for the dramatic. smile

Well thank you Bob! I just came in from working a double and must say that I agree. These pics are absolutely amazing.

This one is a ten to me. It was smuggled out of MCRD and the first I'd seen of my son in a couple of monthes.

That picture is 22 years old, when she was just a 2nd year rookie.

During her teen years I was sure I would become a serial killer of teen boys!

ltppowell;
I realize you requested no repeats but in terms of days outside that made memoreable "10's" in my life, three come to my mind.

A fall day where I was looking after the girls, so we went for a drive up the mountain behind the house.
[Linked Image]

Another fall day where the teachers were off on a training day, so we took a little drive to a mountain to the west of us.
[Linked Image]

Another fall day where they both got their first deer within about 20 seconds of each other.

Those are my "10's" anyway.

Thanks to all who've shared theirs, it's made for interesting viewing to be sure.

Regards,
Dwayne
