Many years ago, a guy by the name of Bob Petersen, of Guns & Ammo fame, used this bullet on a Kodiak Bear, a Polar Bear, and an Alaskan Moose. We're talking almost 30 years ago here. I used to use the factory loads to shoot through cars, etc. Anyway I have a box of them w/ hollow points added. It seems they were a little too tough a bullet for many. So Norma hollow pointed them. I want to develop some loads for them. They are .429 inches in diameter, 236 grs. each, and will be fired in a Smith 29 (1960's model !). I was thinking of using the starting, to mid-level, loads for H4227 as listed in Speer's No.12 manuel. My concern is that the harder, mild steel jacket might not take the charges that would be normal in other jacket bullet designs in the .44 Magnum. Anybody ever load these ? What did you use, and how did it work ? I'm going to pack my pet along on Mt. Quail, and squirrel hunts in case I run into a black bear. E
