I do envy the guys who can go hunting and not wear rain gear. What keep SE AK from being a major population center is the weather.. (as the rain pounds off my roof) The woods here also can very very thick and rugged. One guy I know who really knows his stuff says that 3 miles of hiking in the woods in SE AK equals about 10 miles of hiking anywhere else.
Most of my "rut" hunts I come home soaked. I've hiked up big mountains only to sit in the fog. But, I like this place because I rarely run into anybody else, we have generous #'s of tags, and we have lots of public land to hunt on. And, I wouldn't trade a deer sneaking into the call for anything.

Yea, I concede; those are severe extremes and I'm with you-I hate humidity too. Still, I like ND on the basis of very little experience, a couple of duck hunts on some of those nice Oct days you describe. My impression of ND is the "big empty" which you allude to; I kind of like that.

I vote Catskills and Adirondacks, not any pressure once you get away from the road. Good number of deer and decent quality Bucks in the Western Catskills and in South Eastern Daks. And GREAT COUNTRY TO HUNT. The only thing that sucks now is ticks if it is warm.

It seems appropriate to use my first post to thank Mule Deer for his ringing endorsement of North Dakota's climate. He is right: -35 does keep out the riff raff...and most everyone else. We like it that way. Less competition for some of the finest deer hunting in the US.
One of the benefits for enduring our exteme weather is the fact that only 1% of total deer liceses are issued to nonresidents.

I concur - a couple miles off the main road, near farms.

Strictly deer...I love SE Idaho. Idaho Falls to American Falls to Malad, from the high ground, down to the lava flows.

Strictly deer...I love SE Idaho. Idaho Falls to American Falls to Malad, from the high ground down to the lava flows. I hunted central ID one year. Saw some bucks at close range too. Dang glad I didn't kill any of them though. That is steep country. I would have had to make camp and eat him right where he fell.

Best place to hunt?
hmmm
I would have to say....
The best place to hunt is where you CAN hunt.
The deer hunter does not notice the mountains

Beautiful pic's Steelie. I wouldn't gravitate to those stock colors myself but as I see them I like them and they look good in the scenery.

Great pics Steely!
The top pic (I think) with the buck on the ground in the front is that a deer standing in the back part of the pic or what the heck is it?
