I may be hunting some hogs at night and don't want to have to track them. Where do you recommend I shoot them.

In or behind the earhole, if you have the time. If not, use a tough bullet and shoot for bone.

On our last hunt, I asked my buddy why all of his hogs had pierced ears. Apparently, he'd nailed all of them when their heads were down, & their ears were drooped over their ear holes!

None of 'em went anywhere but down, & we got all the meat to bring back. We leave in 2 weeks for our next hunt - I can't wait!

As most have said head shots if you can do them are best.
If you have to go somewhere else remember that a hogs heart and lungs are located just a tad futher forward than a deers are.

If I want the hog to eat I hate to shoot through the shoulders because after the loins shoulders are the best eating IMO.

Close to the truck if it is a big one.

Make sure the bullet is up to the task. On shoulder shots you might have a layer of mud and an inch of gristle. Just about anything will work on a head shot but the shoulder demands more of the bullet than a shooting a deer would.

Behind the ear or in the neck. DOA! I shot two with my .243, 65gr. Vmax, behind the ear. Both dropped like a stone. Shot three others with my 260AI, 120gr. BT, ran off and died not far from where they nwere shot. These shots were long and thru the lungs. BIG HOLES in their chest cavities. But, dead none the less.

Behind the ear or through the lower front shoulder.

++ on the ear. That will put them down right there. Besides that it won't mess up any barbecue.

Ready on the Right and I shot two nice hogs simultaneously through the shoulders and both dropped right there. Coincidence? I think not.
He was shooting some factory 30 30 ammunition, I had a 270 with 130 BT's in the pipe. Hogs can take a bunch except when it's in the right place.

When would shoot them with a .22 Mag, I'd aim in between the ear and eye hole. Only once did it not drop a pig. And that one fell back on his haunces for some reson and screamed bloody murder. But if you're using a centerfire rifle, shoot em in the shoulders. They won't go far.

If you can, head shot. Hunting with spotlight or at a lighted feeder. Shot one recently behind the shoulder with a nice exit wound and she went about 20 yards. A black hog at night is hard to find though.

Good luck.

2-3 inches above the elbow or in the neck between the shoulder and ear. Neck shots are best.
