The move The Hurt Locker just won best picture, best director and a slew of other awards. Has anyone seen it? Is it actually that good?

I thought it was a good movie.
Good, but not great.
The sniping scene was awfully good if you know nothing about rifles. The bad guys were holed up in a house over 500-600 yards away and hitting the good guys nearly every time with their ironsighted AK47's while the good guys couldn't hit squat with a big scoped Barrett 50!!!
On second thought the movie was kinda lame!

The Academy really just wanted to give Best Director to the first woman ever.

I've seen it. It's not a movie that makes you say, "That was GREAT!" afterwards,..the way "Saving Private Ryan" or "Forrest Gump" did.
It's pretty much just a generic war movie about Iraq. Nothing stands out about it.

Oh yeah, the Barrett refused to feed rounds from the mag when the cartridges got a little blood on them. They had to clean each one!!
On third thought, the movie sucked!!

It certainly wasn't great. But it was good. Hell of a lot better than Avatar. Exaggerated the overt risk taking of the main character, but it's a flippin' movie. At least the kept the anti American politics out of it.

The Hurt Locker folks are being sued for ripping of some soldier's story, allegedly, at least as to the development of the script. Don't know if it includes the director.
This was just announced today, so a grain of salt might be appropriate.

I hear a lot of military can't stand it, makes those in that field look like a bunch of cowboys..that being said, if those in the military speak out against it, it is assured of winning best picture.

Any movie that wins that many Oscars is guaranteed to SUCK in my experience.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

I thought it was ok, but don't know what all the fuss is about. +1 I actually fell asleep and missed the last 10 minutes or so. To much renegade cowboy stuff to be believeable for me.

I haven't seen the movie and probably wont.
I refuse to watch the Oscars because its selections have become too predictably PC. Wouldn't be nice to have a 'this' win or wouldn't it be nice to have a 'that' win. No thanks.
I didn't understand a word you said, but whatever it was I'm right there with you.

I have to agree with the trend of these posts. I found a lot of the undisciplined "cowboy" stuff hard to believe, and also wondered about the failure of the Barrett to handle cartridges with blood on them. I just don't know, but I'm skeptical.
My son is a veteran of Iraq, and if he chooses to see it I'll be interested in his opinion of it.
Hardly among the greatest war movies I've seen.
