I would be very interested in your recipes with R17 and the results.
Thanks
Tim

Man, those 8mm Mag rounds look like a half stick of dynamite with a bullet on top. Impressive looking cartridge.

That looks amazingly similar to my own horse cork thrower/ launcher. I too would be interested in some loads....not that Ramshot Magnum isn't accurate enough but I bought a metric ship ton of 17

Probably spring bear, lots to choose from around here.I'm wondering what a full case of H870 would be like in the 8mm

With 220s in front of 84 grains of RL-25 You do not have to ask if it went off. And the elk do not like it much. Five shoots averaged 3004 fps and print into 3/4" when I can stand up to it.

I might try to tag a bear this spring, although I still got to pay for last spring's rug which is still at the taxi. I mainly bought them just to see what they'd do. I'll likely stick to the 200gr TSX @ 3000 fps for this fall's elk and moose huntin'

old and slow they were not

8mm Mag/160 ttsx (m700 24" brl)
H4350
80.0 - 3320
81.0 - 3371
82.0 - 3408
83.0 - 3496
84.0 - 3538

Rl17
80.0 - 3323
81.0 - 3390
82.0 - 3453
83.0 - 3518
84.0 - 3559

Both 84.0 grain loads showed some high pressure signs. I think 82-82.5 would be a safe max with both powders, in my rifle. I will shoot for group next time out, today was just to establish a sensible max. Judging by the 5 shot group of the different powder charges, H4350 was a bit tighter. We'll see next time out PS my shoulder is sore

Who was it that guessed 3450 as a good working load? wink

Sounds like a good load for the bears!

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

I use the same case necked up to 338. It is a nice big useful case. In 338 diameter I had a failure to exit on an eland with 200gr X bullets so went up to 225 TTSX's and have not looked back. Very deadly load. 200 grs might be just fine in the slightly smaller 8mm diameter though.

Favorite powder, by far, is 7828SSC. Give it a go with your 200 and larger bullet loadings. Too slow for the 160, obviously.
