I have been interested in taking gunsmithing classes and recently the time and finances have all worked out. My question is Are the online courses worth a crap or should i go with another option? At first it will probably just be for hobby but i would like to be able to make some side money doing things i already know how to do anyway. Any info would be appreciated.

I can't answer about online or self study classes, but you might try the short term NRA summer classes given at the various Gunsmithing Jr Colleges. Probably the closest one to you is Montgomery Jr College in Troy, NC. Alot depends on what you want to learn, as different colleges have different courses. I have taken numerous courses over the years at both Montgomery and also Trinidad Jr College in Trinidad, Colorado, and can highly recommend both. Courses are usually a week or two long. In Trinidad you can stay on campus cheap, and in Troy, NC there is cheap lodging available. One thing I did prior to taking classes, was to take all the machine shop classes I could at my local community college.

Ive got a little bit of machining background as well as steel working. The online deal would best fit my needs but im worried that they will be a joke.

I graduated from the school in Colorado in 1976, wonderful experience.there is a guy over on AR that is an instructor, talk to him. I think the hands on is better than the online, just my opinion.

Some of the schools and the NRA team up for short summer courses. Just thought I'd throw that out there as an option as well.

Otto is my co-pilot.
