When I am trimming brass, the pilot guide doesn't fit perfectly straight in the neck mouth. It has heavy contact on the far side of the neck mouth. I can get it to fully seat with a little pressure, but I don't think it should work that way. Shouldn't the pilot line up perectly with the case neck mouth? I just noticed this recently. I've really been trying to improve the quality of my reloads and I think this might be a problem. Am I being too anal or is this a real problem? RCBS is going to send me a new shaft for the cutter, but I'm not sure this will fix the problem. What do you think? Do I have a problem that could effect accuracy? Thanks.

I have the same RCBS trimmer you mention and also notice the same problem. Piloted case trimmers for the most part do this and I think yes, it can effect accuracy because the case mouth is not getting cut squarly. I upgraded to the Wilson for this reason.
Why is it called a double u, should'nt it be called a double v?

RCBS is famous for making good on their products. Give them a call, and they may have one shipped before you get yours boxed up.

I have the same trimmer with the same problem. I have been debating calling RCBS about it. Temporarily I have been turning the cases in the trimmer and cranking it again to even the things out a bit. Nuts.
Let us know how you make out.

I'll let you know if replacing the cutting shaft works. If not, I'll be sending the trimmer back to them to get it trued up. Either way, I'll let you know what happens. Glenn

Based on my experience with this type of trimmer any alignment trouble is more likely traceable to the end that holds the case head rather than the cutter shaft. I believe it's inherent to the design and the way it holds the case.
I've long since gone to the Wilson for bottle necked rounds. It cuts them square and there's no pilot rooting around inside the case necks.

It is a design problem, not a manufacturer defect as I stated above. Get a Wilson and don't look back. RCBS stuff for the most part is entry level reloading gear IMO.

wsmnut...I do the same thing with my RCBS trimmer. Shot some pretty good groups over the years, doesn't seem to affect accuracy, not that I can tell, but it is annoying!
