question asked.
I am breaking in a new barrel...supposedly the right way.
shoot one...clean. shoot two....yada yada....
but every time I rod that barrel I can feel the gas port.
that is correct, isn't it? I should be able to detect the gas port as the brush or patch thingy passes the port...right?
I mean a pristine bore with barrel crown and all that stuff is essential to accuracy...then we drill a hole in the top of the barrel for hot gas to blow through.....
how does that affect accuracy? thank you.

In my opinion it has no effect on accuracy. First 3 shot group at 100 yards after sight in from my AR 204 Ruger I built a few weeks back. My break in is shoot four shots and clean until i get 50 rounds down the tube. The group was shot after four shots down the new tube to sight in
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

No apparent effect as many ARs and other gas ported rifles shoot bug holes. IMO/E the breaking in routine is a waste of time and ammo. You might find the following comments from Gale McMillan, who won a lot of matches with his barrels, informative. Good shooting, gas guns are fun! http://www.6mmbr.com/GailMcMbreakin.html

Gas ports can't be too detrimental to accuracy. I've only got a couple of bolt guns that are anywhere in the same neighborhood as my most accurate AR.
