I would like to share a couple pictures of my little
Sako family.
First one is a Sako Alll in 300H&H it has a Kreiger
barrel and a micky swirley. It has a Docter 3x12x50
scope with Talley rings.
Second one is a Sako L16R 30.06, it also has a
Kreiger barrel and micky stock it has a Zeiss
3x9x40 in Talley mounts.
Both of these rifles were built for me by Kevin
Weaver. Third is a Sako 75 in 300 RUM it has
Hart barrel and a Micky stock.
It has Kahles 3x12x50.
They all shoot pretty good ,but my go to rifle
is the 300 RUM .Mainly because it scary accurate
much more then I am.
Thanks for looking.

Very nice rifles. I have a custom on an L691 action and a M75 SS as well. Love the Sako's....How do you like that Sako Classic pattern stock on the 61R? I have one on order now for one of my Sako's....

300MAG,
I have run a lot of different bullets through the old girl ,
accubonds , scirocco, TSX and TTSX. They have all shot good
except the scirocco which tumbled on me.
I used Rel 25 for everything.
What has worked the best is the 200gr ttsx or the 180 ttsx
using 89 gr for the 200gr and 91gr for the 180gr.
Lately I've been working on some loads using N-160 it shows
real promise with both the 180 and 200gr ttsx.
Its hard not to have any 200gr bullet shoot good in the RUM
Later,
Charlie

Oakatona,
I like it just find , but not nearly much as the Sako hunter
in the H&H and Rum.
It works good in the 06 With minimal recoil . But in the heavier recoiling H&H and Rum the hunter seems to be better designed.

I have always like the old L series Sakos, the rest don't do a thing for me..

My favorite rifle is a little African/English style custom Sako L-461 that I built. It has an 18 inch Douglas barrel in 6x45 with a .001 bench rest chamber so needs to be outside neck turned before it will chamber..It has a simi cresent steel checkered Neidner butt plate and grip cap, The best piece of Claro I have ever seen, so good it took 22 LPI checkering and thats hard as wood pecker lips I might add..It is dark blood red full fiddle and lots of contrasting color..long grip, shadow line egg cheek piece and short forend with ebony tip..weighs 5.5 lbs with 2x7 Leupold compact...BTW it has a mod 70 3 pos. safety that Tony Barnes made from a piece of .308 bull barrel..neat! Trigger is Sako with a lot of hand work to 1-3/4 lbs.and crisp as breaking glass..It shoot .200 to .280 every time with one load and .300 with about any load. I shoot 60 gr. Sierra HPs with 25 grs. of H322 for target and rockchucks etc. I shoot the 75 gr. GS customs HP or the discontinued 75 gr. Barnes X HP at 2950 FPS with H335 for deer and plainsgame.

It is quit a rifle. my favorite. Love this little Sako...

The L series is my favorite. All three had beautiful wood stocks, but I tend to be pretty brutal on stocks when hunting(fall down a lot) Do a lot crawling and walking through rocks on the edge of
canyons so I opted to go the mic route.

Mackman,

How's the recoil on that 300 Ultra...I'm toying with a 300 or 7mm Ultra or possibly an STW or 7mm Weatherby. Never shot a 300 Ultra so don't know what I would be getting myself into!

Well, when you pull the trigger you don't have to wonder if it
went off. As lung as you keep it against your shoulder
it not to bad.. I've shot it in a awkward position a few times
had it come back and just tap my glasses. Gets your attention.
I'm sure that the stock configuration and the fact the Sako is
a pretty heavy rifle helps. I shot a Rem several years and it
seemed that it kicked a lot harder but really it's not that
bad.

Mine is a 7.5 lb Remmy 700 BDL/SS. It definitely moves when it goes off. The most important factors for success with a rifle in this caliber are a soft recoil pad and a scope with lots of eye relief. My Remmy has the R3 pad made by SVL and it is fantastic. My scope is a Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 (nothing need be said about the scope choice). As has been said, hold it snugly against the shoulder with a soft pad and it's managable. Recoil is much more pronounced with the heavier bullets. I shoot 150 grain TSXs in mine. It's a LASER beam. wink The 200 grain NPT factory loads are quite a different story.
