Perhaps you pissed away your life. I, by God, did the best I could. How could you possibly be ashamed of our generation? We out worked and out produced every previous generation. We knowingly gave our blood to a worthless cause because our country called.

Now that we are retiring, the non working masses are starting to squirm. The wheels are starting to fall off the wagon and we won't be there to put them on. The younger generations now want to blame the Baby Boomers for all the handout programs that are going to be unfunded. Yo'mama will probably pass another unfundable boondoggle today.

Instead of blaming us, the whinners better get off their asses and realise under socialism the only thing that is equaly shared is misery.

My life has been great, in large part because I rejected the values of my generation. I knew I was being lied to by the government all along and planned accordingly.

You are right that the generation before us voted themselves great benefits by worshipping their guru, FDR and his kin the progressive bull moose, TR. We had plenty of chances to get rid of it though and sat on our comfortable complacent azzes. I do not blame the next generations for hating our collective guts - if we had any.

The non working masses, as you call them, will be the first through the reality meat grinder, as it should be.

We believed "make believe" and that is very, very dangerous.

Not trying to be abrasive, but I really don't understand where you are coming from.

What 'values of your generation' did you reject? Acid dropping and dope smoking? Tie died t-shirts and lava lamps? I did think 'free love' was a cool idea whistle

I knew the government was screwed up and lying somewhere about 1966 when pieces of my brother came back in a body bag along with pieces of at least one other guy as yet unnamed. Damned if I ever knew how to plan accordingly for that. As far as our generation not having guts-well my brother had them to spare until they were blown all over south east asia. I got to keep mine.

Personally, I had hoped the hippie movement was long dead. Then along came Bill Clinton. Perhaps that is the 'values of my generation' of which you speak.

The next generations may 'hate our collective guts' but I have a real feeling when all the freebies are gone they're going to be too busy working or starving to devote much energy to placing blame. Maybe, when they are as old as us , they may learn gratitude.

OUTCAST, remember "the decent few who served their country honorably" that I alluded to in my first post? That would be your brother. I have undying respect for him (and many others who frequent this board) and what he did. I only wish I could thank him now.

Bill Clinton, is however the archetypical boomer to which I refer. I can only wish our generation was composed of more of your brother and less of the other. But it was not IMO.

Sorry this dredges up such sad memories for you and I pray you fare better in the coming years than our current situation indicates.

I am not dead yet, so I intend to do everything I can to improve the future. I owe it to your brother.

Let see, I just got a SS update last week. It says I had my first quarter in 65. (Were you born in 65 Sean?)I have worked all my life. I served seven years of active duty starting in 68. I fathered one child but raised 6 plus several strays. Never took a dime of government money. If times were hard I worked two jobs. Then I got hurt on the job. Listened to the nice lady (Barbra Summerfield of Arganought Ins) tell my I should kill myself so I would not be a drag on society. Spent four and a half years without and income and forbidden to work. Then I got a doctor to forge a release to work and moved to another state. Still not a penny of government money.

I am going to retire in May of 11 at 62. Why, because It sometimes takes me two or three tries to get in my truck every morning, the pain is that bad. The last four weeks I have been averaging over 60 hours a week. Still no government money.

Now if I can hold out until my 62nd birthday what can I expect? A whopping 1200 a month. BFD!

So Sean, should I burn my SS checks when they come? Maybe I should have bit the bullet when I got hurt so the world could be a better place for the younger guys.

Am I pissed at what is going on. Your damned right I am. And I will vote every last bastard out until the come and give me the shot to put me down.

Altho billions were poured into social security and medicare for decades, both are now underfunded. The problem has been identified and discussed for years.

From the first day I worked until the last, money was taken from my paycheck for those programs. Had I been allowed to keep it and invest it I would be a millionare

So what did congress do today? Create a solution to the problem? No. They created another massive entitlement program which is not funded at all and the cost of which is anybodies guess. So how do they purpose to fund this new boondoggle? Well one answer is, they are going to tax what money I was able to save and invest. Raping social security wasn't enough.

Retired or not I still pay taxes on everything I make and everything I own. Living off the fat of the land or the sweat of future generations? Hardly.

OH, BOO HOO HOO!!!!

It's wonderful when the Me-First-I-Want-It-All-Handed-To-Me-Without-Working-I'm-Not-Responsible-For-Anything-It's-Someone-Else's-Fault- Generation starts crying.

I love the taste of their tears.

So what are we old guys gonna do with our massive Social Security checks? Think I'll buy a Porsche. Already have a Caddy.
