It seems the 257 has a bit more of a folllowing more support here, but that there is no acccuracy issues with any of the two cartridges. I don't know if there is any rational to it, but in my neck of the woods there is the idea that both are finicky cartidges, meaning that they only like whatever load they like, and that all the rest they will shoot terrible.
I am inclined towards the 264 because I have a shelf full of 264 bullets. I believe it will do the same as the 257 and then, with 140gr bullets, maybe a little more.
Utah708, what is the weight of your NULA with it's #2 contour?
Thank you all for your cooments.

I can like a 264 very much and doing because you have a shelf full of bullets makes much sense.

JMHO, but the skinnier the barrel the higher the chances you will have repeatable accuracy issues... I wouldn't go less than a #2 and unless being 'light weight' is a firm 'gottabe', increase to #3.. I have a M70 in .264 and its heavy.
Nah... It'll help ya build up some biceps.. Don't be a wuss.. I love the 264, i have 3 of them.... I only have 5.. None of 'em are too heavy and none of 'em have skinny barrels.. Admittedly biased, I'd take the .264WM over the Wby any time, any way..

Nice lines on that rifle Wookie! I shoot a 7 Mashburn Super a lot and I make the cases off the 300 Win as well.

I say flip a coin. If it were not for the Barnes TSX the nod would go to the 264 if elk were on the menu but it appears that the TSX has made all bore sizes equally tall. 264 brass is cheaper but both can be easily formed from 7mm Rem mag brass. I've got a 257 in a Wby ultra lightweight that doesn't want to shoot yet but I haven't had the time to experiment much with it. Too early to pass judgement on the skinny barrel.

NULA 257 wby and have Melvin skip the excessive freebore.
I still think the "perfect" rifle would be the M20 NULA in 257 Roberts.

257's I have worked with were super accurate and easy to work up a load for. The two 264's that I played with were a pain to say the least, finicky. '
I have no fond memories of a 264. What the cartridge was supposed to do in theory just did not pan out, both were model 70's. I did end up finding that both rifles loved the 129g Hornady at 3100-3150 which did a great job on deer. Sounds like a 270, which is why I sold the rifles.

I had a .257WBY then switched to the .264WM. I think they're both pretty cool.

So Wook's, What are your reloading tools/die set up to make this round? Who chambered it for you? Interested minds need to know.

Simple necking down to 6.5mm, that's it, Case is the same. I just backed off my 264 WM NK die accordingly.
Mine has a .295 NK.
I've been using Hornady brass, seems to work well. It was chambered by a gunsmith a couple hours from me. It is a customers reamer which has been left at his shop. He got the OK to use it for my rifle.
I like it for the fact that a bullet seats out well still in a 3.600 mag well. A 6.5mmSTW has to be seated deep in a 3.600 mag well.

BBerg BBerg, got to watch those kind of comments, Winchesters are the holy grail of rifles. My rifles were bedded, free floated, trigger job, Leupold 6.5x20's. Other than a couple of Handi rifles, those two rifles were the worst night mares I have ever worked with. What's wrong with me? I'm just not happy with 1 1/2" rifles. To me a 264 is a 7 Mag wanna be.

YES THEY ARE!! My rifles were bedded, free floated, trigger job, Leupold 6.5x20's. Other than a couple of Handi rifles, those two rifles were the worst night mares I have ever worked with. Curious here.. Were those PF or CRF models? You buy 'em new or used? Kept spotlessly clean or let 'em get fouled? To me a 264 is a 7 Mag wanna be. Swap those and I'll agree.. Hehehehehe
