Lately I have used the little CB's for pest control but feeding these little rascals one at a time is a pain.

Anybody make a mag for them??

I use CB Longs in my 10/22, through the magazine with no problems.

Are you trying to use the shorts?

Volquartsen makes a magazine + a bolt kit for the 10/22. You can get that through Midway, probably through Brownells as well.

I got the magazine. I didn't do the bolt kit for the 10/22 'cause I wanted it not to cycle, I wanted to hand-operate the action so it'd be quieter. Didn't work. The CBs had just enough "snot" they'd open the action, not enough to eject clean, and most every shot my gun jammed. I also tried it in a 77/22. I forget what the issue was there, but I wasn't real happy.

It didn't take very long before I went back to .22 LR subsonics.

When I really want to shoot CBs, I drag out my old Winchester 1906 gallery pump. It feeds them w/ no BS. Its kinda amusing to shoot squirrels with, but not real humane. Those lead roundnose bullets at low velocity just poke ice-pick holes and the squirrels take a few minutes to bleed out. I shot one on a root wad last year, nice clean shot behind the shoulder. It half fell off, then caught itself by it's front legs like it was trying to do a chin-up. The back legs ran in the air for probably 20 seconds before it finally dropped dead.

T O M:

I use the standard magazine and have had not had the bolt open once with CCI CB Longs. Hand eject the empties and, holding the rifle level, control the bolt with thumb and forefinger to chamber the next round.

This is a new thing for me. I've only recently tried them in the 10/22 and I've discovered that it's my only .22 that will shoot CBs with acceptable accuracy, short or long. So now it's my CB rifle.

Sounds like you're having better luck than I did. Bad for me, good for you!

I don't (gasp!) have either a 10/22 or 77/22 at the moment, got rid of both and got a 77/17 heavy barrel. I don't think my sample is the most accurate shooter in this caliber but it'll stay a hair under MOA which is good enough for my rimfire use.

The thing I don't like about the 77/xx family is the crappy triggers. They can be improved but there just isn't a way to make one meet my standards of "good". OTOH, with enough $$ a 10/22 can have a pretty good trigger. I'm slowly shopping for a new .22 bolt action. No luck so far finding one that suits me.

I'd say luck, good or bad, has a lot to do with any recently manufactured 10/22. Never had a 77/22.

Don't know what would suit you in a bolt action .22, but an Anschutz would suit me very well. grin

If I didn't already have a 452 that suited me, an Annie would be next on the list.

Try the CCI CB longs. They should work in the standard magazine. My 77/22 VBZ does not shoot them well but feeds from the magazine without a problem.

My rifle likes the CCI Standard Velocity load. It groups around 1/2 inch at 25 yards but they are not as quit.

Next time I'll buy the CB Longs. I am not an expert in rimfire stuff. Sportsmans or whatever there called now only had the shorts. I need quiet.... The subsonics didn't seem much quieter than reg loads although I only popped off one at home and since it was not at a "range" it may have just seemed loud. The cb's are the ticket as they seem about as loud as a pellet gun.

Thanks guys.

Dave:

I have a .177 air rifle and CBs out of a rifle make less noise.
