After 15 years of shooting most kinds of hunting rifles I was of the impression that I was not capable of precision shooting. But today I lucked into a good deal on a real precision rifle and found out that it was my equipment that had been holding me back so long and not my skill. Now I think I'm ready to start learning from you guys how to reach out there to the really long distances and push the envelope. I HAVE TO BRAGG; I got everything you see here, except the scope, for $850. AND I got to shoot it before I bought it.

The case seems unassuming enough. Low profile for transportation.

But then you open it up and see a whole weapon system ready to go.

She looks good from all angles.

And she shoots great too.

The rifle is a .308 Remington PSS and came with the Storm Case, Leupold Mark 4 rings, Leupold 10MOA decline base, large bolt knob and, 2 lbs. trigger.

That group was my final 5 shot group of the day, shot with 168gr Hornady TAP ammo.

Not bad for shooting factory ammo. My next step is to develop a hand load for it starting with the Hornady 168gr A-max as my starting point, but I'd like to see what I can get from 165gr accubonds, SST's, and Interbonds in the future for better hunting performance. I have a whole stock pile of .308 brass from old rifle's I have owned so it won't be long before i am getting all I can out of this rifle. .BUT it is very comforting to know I can get this kind of accuracy from commonly available factory ammo.

I really look foreword to learning a lot from you guys about long range shooting and can't wait for a chance to get this rifle back home where I can stretch her legs.

Nice find!! Looks like a real shooter too. I have one of the older PSS with the 24" pipe, it likes the 165's. Speer, Hornady, Sierra.

Is that a 24" or 26" bbl? Sweet rig's....

Develope a load for the 175 SMK this is a rather high BC bullet designed for the 308 and will ring out the best of the 308 for long distance shooting IMHO

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

The PSS has a 1/12 twist rate on it which I am afraid might be a little too slow for 175 grain bullets. I'll have to pick up a box of factory ammo with 175's to see how it likes them

1/12 is not too slow to stabilize 175 gr.

Given that this rifle has a 1/12 inch barrel, do you guys think it would shoot 150 gr interbonds and SST's very well?

I shot some 180gr Federal Fusions out of my rifle today and they went 10 shots into an inch. 5 under a 1/2 inch. looks like my gun likes heavy bullets even though it has a 1/12 twist. Im thinking about experimenting with 165 and 180 grain SST's and just pick what my rifle shoots most accurately for hunting. It's really six one way, half a dozen the other with these bullets. You just have to decide whether you want flat trajectory with more wind drift versus less wind drift and more drop. Both stay above 1000 ft/lbs of energy out to 600 and stay super sonic to 1000.

Of course I won't be hunting with this rifle at 1000 yards but I'd like to have a load using a bullet that I can both hunt ethically with and shoot targets at extended ranges. I'm not comfortable shooting match bullets at game animals.

Here was my first group today with 168gr A-max bullets

Any more deals like that waiting to be picked up?
