I was sorting some 7wsm brass last night and found 17 pieces that were 0.004" shorter than the rest. Should I trash these? Will 0.004" make a noticable difference in accuracy? Thanks for the help.

Are they within or close to the trim-to length? If you'll be trimming the others to the trim-to length, and the 17 are within the trim-to length, then they'll be the same. Winchester is the only manufacturer of 7 WSM now, so I'd be judicious about what I threw away.

It's .002 shorter than trim to length. Seems like trim lenght is 2.090. Most of my brass is 2.092 after 3 firings. A 0.004 difference seemed like it might be significant, so I set those pieces aside. I thought I might keep them separate and continue to load them. I guess I could run a test myself to see if a 0.004 difference matters.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to get better with my technique and I'm just starting to notice some of the little things that in the past I overlooked. Thanks again.

It's good that you're vigilant in that respect. That's what makes a good handloader.....good.

But has been said, you will be GTG with those four shorter cases. Not unsafe nor will you likely notice any difference in accuracy.

I am pretty anal about such stuff as well, so trust me on this one.....wink.

If you want to be real picky, trim them all to the shortest length. There's nothing magic or writ-in-stone about the "trim to" length; it's the max length that you want to watch.

Aim for the exit hole.
