Looking for a less expensive optic for a project I'm working on. The Pioneer and Crossfire jump off the page in that aspect. Is it worth it to spend the extra dough for the next level up?

I like the Pioneer that I have and had a crossfire on a gun I sold .. Don't have a Diamonback so can't say about that one. Liked the ones I owned just fine. Just depends how much money you have to spend.

I have the Diamondback 3x9x40 mounted on Marlin XL7 and would recommend it to anyone in the less than $200.00 price range. I also own several other well known brands of more expensive rifle scopes but the Vortex Diamondback is a very good value.

I've got a Diamondback 2-7 on a rimfire and to my eyes, optically it is very close to my VXII 2-7. I'd say spend the extra $70 or so to get the Dback.

You might want to give the new Redfield Revolutions a look also. I've had both Vortex models and would choose the Redfield over either personally. Never had a Pentax, cant comment there. Good luck.
