I started cleaning some brass the other night, I have a Lyman 1200 vibrator and an old tumbler. I dump in about 200 casees in the Lyman and as always they came out great. The next load came out with this green film stuck to them. Nasty stuff hard to wipe off. I thought my media had gone bad, But I use the same media in my tumbler it takes a bit longer to run a load but they come out perfect. Have any of ya'll seen this?
Could it be moisture? Or build up in the the tub. I pulled the media out of the Lyman cleaned the tub got a gob of caked on crap out of it. The media was new when I started this round of cleaning. Is there any way to clean the media?
Thanks

Pat

Take a good pillowcase, put the media in there, tie a knot in the pillow case and put it in the washer on the gentle cycle with a good dose of detergent. Voila! It's clean! Walnut media will last forever doing this periodically. Don't try it with corncobs. Have no clue about the caked on stuff.

Clean the media? Yeah, dump it out and start with new.

You can get walnut media cheap at PetSmart, they sell it for bird cage liner. Or you can go to http://www.black-walnuts.com/nutshell.asp (Stockton, MO) and order it by the 50-pound bag in whatever grit you want. Picked up a bag of 20/30 grit from them last time I visited the Grandparents. Order some of their black walnuts while youre at it. YUM!

Adding Berrys Brass Bright will significantly reduce the time required to clean the brass.
