Home Forums Lever Action Central Lever Actions - General Browning BLR in .308 not firing?

Anyone have any trouble with a Browning BLR misfiring? Seems like if I get a certain type of ammo usually the cheaper military stuff. It will misfire about 25% of the time, usually the brand name ammo will only do it about 5% of the time.

Is it the firing pin, spring or? Also I notice if I don't force the lever all the way up it is more apt to do it as well. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem. It would be nice to be knowledgeable about it before I take it in to my gunsmith.

Did you buy it new or used? Has it been taken apart? I purchased A used 243 blr and it would only fire every 3 out of 10 shots due to someone taking it apart, and they were unable to put it together correctly. The timing in the gears are A PIA to put back together correctly...

I bought it used about 15 years ago. It worked OK when I first had it other than the occasional problem of the lever not being high & tight. But over the years has gotten worse.

The environment it was in was not the greatest: rain forest next to the salt water. It was hard to keep rust off of it & show somes signs of wear.

I like the gun & the concept, just wish it were of stainless and more durable. A Marlin 336SS would be great if they had it in this round. Yeah I know I've looked at the 308 Marlin Express, but I don't have confidence that it will be around in 5 years.

In addition over the years it has cont. to shoot higher and higher with open sites. Now I have to go with scope or have my gunsmith fix the bad siteing.
