Just curious? If they make in 7mm & 6.5mm doesn't seem to make much sense. I think it'd be a real performer. Of course it might completely eliminate the need for 6.5mm, at least from a hunting aspect!! wink

Because of its lower BC, the gain in velocity by dropping 10 grains of bullet weight would be lost downrange compared to a 130 gr.

In other words it really wouldn't shoot any flatter than a 130 gr at 400 yds, at least not enough to matter.

It wouldn't replace the 6.5mm either, the whole point of 6.5 mm bullets is their very high BC and SD. A typical 120 gr 6.5mm bullet has a BC somewhere around 420-440, a 120 .277 bullet would be about 375 or so and the SD would be significantly lower.

But your right at most hunting ranges it wouldn't matter.

BTW,

Barnes did produce the original X-bullet in 120 gr but it just never really sold.

I think if you really want to try something along those lines,,,with the new 6.8 SPC chambered in the AR-15,,,you can find bullets that are 90gr, 100gr and 115gr all .277 cal.

just an idea, no problem.

I was kidding about the 6.5mm it kinda is the king of BC. TX270, I know you're right about the 120gr. There isn't much that can't be done with the 270 and a 130 grainer for non-dangerous game on most continents. More of a curiosity than anything else. But for Texas sized deer (as you are aware, they ain't that big) it'd be plenty.
