The fact that the 270 rocks! For hunting deer sized game the 270 really is hard to beat. I don't reload currently, but could start back (I stopped because I slowed my hobby shooting) The 270 is just the path of least resistance.

Yeah, I know the cool factor is very low, but there is no rifle search. I can get any brand or configuration I want. Yeah, I really love the BC advantage the 6.5mm offers, but for hunting at most reasonable ranges it doesn't mean much. Yeah, I like the accuracy most 6.5's offer, but the 270 is plenty accurate for hunting.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure if I was to get a 6.5mm it would be the 6.5X284. I also think that this was the one to commercialize here. The 6.5 has its following and deserves it, but for most applications the 270 wins the contest between the two.

Whew, I feel better!

You're absolutely right n2.

For nearly all big game hunting purposes the old, unsexy, .270 Winchester works like a charm.

If you're not a reloader the 270 is a great choice, but if you're a reloader there are many, many, many more bullet options available for the 6.5mm. Look at it this way, the 270 has been around for 85 years and nobody uses it in competition, but the 6.5mm is as common as dirt on the range.

Don't see why you think there are many more bullets available for 6.5 than .270. Midway has more .270 bullets spanning a wider range than 6.5. Of course 6.5 has more match bullets if that is your thing.

Ditto!

Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

If it were true I'd still own all three, but alas it ain't. The 270 is the answer to a question never asked.

As of right now, my 270 is my most favorite gun out of all the guns I own. My girlfriend loves her also.

What cartridge achieves 2900fps out of a 22 inch bbl, with a hunting bullet that offers some of the highest BC and Sd, low recoil, moderate muzzle blast, easy to load for, easy to find components for, flat shooting for longish ranges while excellent for up close and personal in the dark timber, and can easily handle any big game in the lower 48?

Why, the answer to them questions is obviously the 270 Winchester...... wink

7mm and 6.5mm have it all over the 270.

That said I'm a 25 caliber slut and if I can't do it with a 25 caliber the JUMP to 270 ain't gonna help anything.

I'd sooner run a 7mm08 over a 270
