Hello everybody, What is the best method of shortening a laminate stock? I've shorten other stocks, but didn't know if these took a different number of teeth on the saw blade.
Thanks for all the advise Doug

In the last year I have bandsawed the butts off of about 100 Lam stocks.
They cut just like any other medium to hard wood like Walnut etc. Any bandsaw blade that will do a neat job on regular wood will do just fine on laminates.
As with any wood stock I would wrap the cutting line with a bit of masking tap to prevent any wood chipping.

What number of teeth would you recommend as I have a chop saw? I don't remember from wood shop what is best.
Thanks Doug

If you have a chop saw, fine is good. 60 teeth, or, you can go slow and careful with 36, nothing coarser. Make sure you clamp the crap out of that puppy and have it hard against the fence, squared up all three ways. I'd suggest using door shims to get everything supported. Other than that, laminate stocks are just glorified plywood. If you have a blade that will give you finish cuts on ply, it'll be just fine for laminate.
