Hi I'm looking to build up an inexpensive deer rifle from parts I have laying around and was hoping for a bit of reassurance before I spend time putting it all together only to find it does'nt work! I have a tikka 690 long action with all the fittings, mag etc previously in 25/06 and I have a very low round count 240 weatherby take off barrel from a mk5 weatherby rifle. Obviously I know I would need to rethread the barrel tenon to fit the tikka action but my main worry is will the 240 cases feed reliably from the tikka mag system? Have any of you rebarreled a standard non weatherby long action in 240 and had feeding issues or is it not a problem? Thanks for reading.

I foolishly traded a 240 Weatherby years ago and had tinkered with the ideal of converting my Tikka T3 30-06 to 240 Weatherby. everyone I had talked to suggest going to 6mm-06 which has a slightly bigger case volume but saves the headache of dealing with a different case\rim construction. Since you will need to mill and rethread anyway you may be able to rechamber the 240 barrel.

Next question is would it be cheaper to sell the Tikka and grab a new synthetic Weatherby in 240 wthby?
It doesnt take long to run up a $$$ gunsmith bill. In the past year Buds gun shop has sold the 240 weatherby new for as low as $950..

I took a new Renm 700 stainless BDL action in 30-06 and had it rebarreled to a 240 WBY with no other modifications and it works fine. I would think about barrel length, and would go with a 26" barrel, for velocity. Possibly you could buy or borrow 3-5 loaded 240 rounds and try to cycle them through your action to confirm that it would feed ok.

Ted and Dale06, Thanks for your thoughts and info. I've just ordered some cases to try through the action to see if it will feed, if they feed ok i'll go with the 240 if not i'll probably have to go to the expense of ordering a 6mm-06 reamer or shelving the project!! Decisions decisions Thanks again

I had my Ruger 77 Mark 2 LH re-barreled to 240 Wby and it cycles just like it did when the rifle was a 06. Zero Problems.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Well the 240 cases arrived yesterday and they feed out of the mag into the chamber of the 25-06 bareel no problem so when the 240 barrel is fitted I think it will be fine. Thanks for your help guys. Any load reccomendations for the 240 with 95 to 105 grain heads?
