CDNN is selling H&R Classic Carbines in .45 Colt. They have deluxe wood with cut checkering, special sights, 20" barrels, and a crescent butt. Kinda of looks like a mini version of their buffalo rifle. pretty good deal $219.99
Just got a sales email from them with that and some other goodies. Thought I would post for those that might be interested.

Thanks for the heads-up. For that kind of money, that's a lot of gun.

Never thought I'd be buying a .45 LC today, but couldn't let that deal go. Thanks again.

Guys, I hate to burst your bubble but I have to tell you the H & R is a "yuch" rifle to me. I wouldn't give you $100 for one of them. Regardless of caliber. They just don't "ring my bell".

45 Colt is a fantastic cartridge in a rifle. I really like mine. The 45 Colt is the perfect cartridge for a good heavy cast bullet. And deadly on deer at any woods distance. Personally I cast a 255 grain bullet for mine. I can shoot about 1,000 rounds for $100. How can you beat that. Show us some pictures when you get it. Hopefully it is nice and short, and lightweight. And good luck in the deer woods. All you need now is a good peep sight and a nice big bright white front bead. Tom.

Rolly... I don't base my happiness on what you like or dislike. No bubble burst here. One man's food is another man's poison.

Rolly has very incorrect info concerning H&R(NEF) rifles.I'll bet he doesn't and never has owned one.

45/70,it's almost a religion.
If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

If they were available here in Canada for that price I'd buy two of them! I would have to agree with Rolly that the NEF/H&R is a homely looking rifle to my eye, and they are known to be cantankerous to shoot nicely at times..

I would agree the NEF/ H&R rifles are not the handsomest rifles out there, but the carbine with checkering is pretty slick.

As a beginning deer hunter, I first wanted an autoloader with an extra capacity magazine. As I matured with 50 deer seasons of experience, I realized that accurate shooting takes deer, not a wall of lead. I graduated to using lever-guns and turnbolts. Not long ago I bought a Handi-rifle (H&R, NEF) in .357 Magnum primarily for practice, not for hunting. I've come to love this little single shot for its handiness and simplicity. It's the rifle I now reach for whenever a day of shooting and plinking presents itself.
I chose the .357 as I have a lifetime supply of .38 SPL to run through it. Select whatever caliber makes sense for you as these are fine little rifles for the money.

I've got a h&r 223 with the bull barrell and varmit stock. Its my go to plinker. With its slow rate of fire and an endless supply of free 223 brass I will be shooting this thing forever.

Might have to have one of those.
Think .45 can, threaded barrel, about 8-9 grains of Unique, 280-300 grain WFNs......

I am planning on dumping a couple of hogs in about 39 days. Just picked up some 225grain Hornady FTXs should be no problem to run those up to about 1600 or a bit better.
Ought to be hell on piggies.

txpete,
Thats a neat looking rifle. I've had a few Handi rifles over the years, all good shooters except for one. It was in 22/250, and I couldn't get it to group no matter what I did. But, every gunmaker puts out a dud once in a while - it didn't put me off of them, and I'd love to have one of those little carbines. The 45 Colt is my favorite cartridge - very versatile, it can do whatever you need it to do. Excellent brush gun for deer or hogs! Good shooting!
