I am looking for some ideas and/or recommendations for a scope under 100 dollars for an AR-15. I use the gun for plinking and recreational shooting. I kinda like the idea of a red dot scope and am open to other suggestions.
Thanks

I was looking at some cheap red dots for a 22 and saw plenty of good reports about Primary Arms. They also have a new scope mount out for $59 but their Aimpoint H-1 copy looks real interesting. http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=304&categoryId=128

Hakko marked scopes (they made all but the early ones Colt sold) were in that price range a year ago and may still be.

Save up a couple of bucks more and get a Weaver 1-3 (V3). One power is close to true 1x so it works great with both eyes open. Three power is high enough to get decent groups at 100 yd targets or for use on on rock chucks at reasonable range. Good quality and reliable. Check around, they can be found on sale for $140 or so.

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SCP119-7.html It has lasted 500+ rounds on a shorty .308, works fine for banging steel out to 200 yards.

I have one of the Weaver V3s on a non AR and it is a fine optic. Probably a "best buy" for the money. Anything under a hundred bucks is likely going to be a chinese made POS. I would rather shoot irons a bit longer and save a bit more to get something that is worth the money I put into it.

Plus one on waiting until you can afford a decent scope for your AR the cheap China red dots only make good targets for your 22 or a paper weight for your desk

I have a red dot made by ATN that I paid about $90 from SWFA. Looks similar to the old "C-More" sights I used to see in handgun compettitions. Works well, easy to pic up the dot. Can't speak for the ruggedness yet as I have not trained hard with that rifle. But it seems to be a good alternative to EOtech, etc. Also ATN is a reputable company that makes night vision for US Military, so I expect good quality.

The majority of the time you get just what you pay for in optics

The Pentax Gameseeker is less than $100 and pretty good for the price point.

Primary arms has a good rep, or ALOT of aliases on ar15. You could also go with the centerpoint 4-16x40 at walmart for $70.

I am looking for some ideas and/or recommendations for a scope under 100 dollars for an AR-15. For that budget, stick with iron sights. If you can increase that budget to 1000, get an ACOG.

I would recommend shopping around alittle and finding a deal on good used Burris Fullfield II 3-9X40. If you ad anouther $100.00 to your budget you can always find a deal on the Burris scope and it'll come with some binos, or Spotting scope or GPS. best deal for the money in my opinon. http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=BU200162BIN&src=tpMfg

Bushnell Trophy Red Dot: $85 from Midway I have one on one of my AR's and its a great scope - I like the 4 different reticle options - the dot in a circle is my favorite. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=310814Oh and I have YHM folding buis on this rifle and when flipped up, they co-witness with this scope perfectly.
