I have this rifle which is in VG condition. I have shot some reloads in it and it is very accurate and functioned well. Well, I took it to the range to try a box of factory ammunition (Dominion 190 grn. soft point) and had some problems. I experienced very sticky extraction with each of three shots fired. I also noted that the primers were backed out by .011". Another note is that the neck and shoulder area seems to be rough on the fired casings compared to the NIB cartridges. Rifle does not appear to have had much use as it locks up properly and has lots of rifling. Ideas??

Dante, if it shoots the reloads well, keep shooting those. It sounds like the Dominion loads are developing way too much pressure. Are you sure they're original factory loads and not reloaded Dominion cases in a factory box? Whatever the case, don't push your luck.

Sounds like your chamber needs to be polished. I have a 250 that had a mint bore and a rough chamber that locked onto the cases causing sticky extraction. The reason the primer is on seated is because the case can't back up and reseat the primer when it's fired. Have a gunsmith check it out and polish the chamber if thats what it needs.
I hope this helps.

I am a Canadian but not a Canadien fan! Dominions....they are original factory loads and are "as new in box". Top of each box is stamped $5.40. I bought them from a good friend who has a stash for $25.00 a box...four boxes. I will try the polished chamber fix as I believe this is the problem. Thanks for helping. Mad Dog, I still have the single shot hornet. Dave
