Sorry, maybe I should give a little background on my rifle first.
My stepfather had a nice old Marlin 336 30-30, and when he passed away a few years ago the rifle ended up in my safe. I figured I could leave it in the back row of the safe from now until the cows come home, or I could do something with it.
So I had a local guy put a nice octagon barrel chambered for the 35-55 Win. caliber on the action.

Since there doesn't seem to be a lot of response here you might want to look further down on the Forums List page, there is a dedicated forum for the 336, or ask in the reloading section.

Agree - there's some guys who haunt the lever gun section & reloading section who could likely give great advice.

Info here tends to largely be on stuff from the .375 H&H on up to the dinosaur-killer African rifles...

IMR 3031 yes, the 200gr Sierra's no. I use 3031 under a 250gr .379" hardcast lead bullet. XMP 5744 works very well also. I suggest that you slug the barrel to see exactly what diameter it is for best results. I only shoot hardcast lead out of mine because of it's diameter. Mine's a Marlin 336CB and it shoots great with the above. grin

Look over on Marlinowners.com forum.

They have a lot of info, even a section specific to the 38-55 and other non standard calibers, as well as a reloading sectin specific to Marlin lever guns.

Hope that helps.
