I collect vintage Weavers, Redfields and Leupolds. I still enjoy using the old scopes. How many of you set up vintage hunting rifles to actualy hunt with? Just curious. Here are some of my set ups. reflex264

A brand new from 1956 K4 in pivot mounts on a model 45 (336) 30-30

A also brand new never used K2.5 in pivots on a 1st model .444

Here is a K4 (from the 1960s) on my Marlin .375.

Here is a K3 on the rifle it was mounted on in 1952. This scope was mounted at a gun shop when the gent bought the rifle. The rifle and scope are near mint. When the buyer got homw with it he shot it a few times, oiled it and set it in a closet where it stayed until 2004.

All of these are hunted with and work well. I don't feel the least bit handicapped. reflex264

My M721's and 722's have "period correct" optics on them--Lyman, Weaver and B&L variable with the Balvar mounts. I like them that way.

I just got a Weaver K4 in the mail. It'll go on a 1958 Model 70 in Weaver rings. Hope to start working up a load for it soon.

Nice Thread.

I have a K-3W with post and crosshair on my Savage 99 in 284W
I have a K 1.5 with post and crosshair on my Ruger 44 Carbine

Two more K-3's one Crosshair the other p&c as auxillary scopes on a 450 Marlin and 358 Norma.

I like the old Weavers...they work very well.

I guess I've slid into this category, too.

I just bought a M8 3x and a Lyman 4x PermaCenter. I've got a 99 on the way mounted with a K4.

All of this happened after I had Parson's Scope Service clean-up my Dad's 2.5x Alaskan. That scope became really nice to look through, and it just looks "right" perched atop his old sporterized Mauser.

I have almost the exact same setup as Steelhead except I used low Burris Zee rings. Also had the K3 refurbished before Weaver repair went out of business. Nice setup!

1937 Weaver 29-S (3X) on a 1937 Sedgley 1885 Hornet (its how it was sold by Sedgley). I did have a early 60's vintage Weaver K4 on a Savage 99 DL in 300 Savage (just a couple of thousand past premil), but the gun shot so well, I was frankly a bit handicapped in low light, so it now wears a Nikon Monarch 1.5X4.5. I've considered using the Weaver on a 1964 produced beater '94 carbine in .30-30.

Had a Colorado vintage Redfield on a 1S in .45-70. It worked very well and was nearly perfect for this gun.

Got a Weaver 29S mounted with a Weaver N2 mount on a Savage Model 5 prewar 22. Seems to work OK but it doesn't get out that much any more. Have to fix that.

The last "period" scope I saw was on a goat hunt

Here is a 1968 Marlin 336C in .35 Remington that sports a vintage K4 Weaver.

Put this together for my dad after his was stolen.

jim62 helped me out with the id of my scope mounts. It has the 30's style mounts too. They are truly repeatable. You should remove it and try it again.

I have two!

1. This is my Sako Mauser Sporter (.270 Win) with a Weaver K4F. I still have the paperwork and warrenty form for this rifle! June of '55!
[Linked Image]

2. One of my 98 Mauser Sporters in 30-06 with an old German Zeil 4x and really nice claw mounts. This rifle is one of my favorites!

I do not know if you would concider this Vintage but I have my dads old Smith Corona M1903A3 Sporterized 3006 with an old Redfield X4 scope probably late 50s or early 60s. The rifle is not worth much but it meens alot to me becouse my dad bought it from my uncle as a mil surp project rifle and he modified it him self by carving the stock the way he wanted it. He told me about that the day he gave me the rifle. Growing up my brother and I never new that he had carved the stock him self. I think that that makes the rifle at least to me Priceless.

Funshooter!
Well, not only would I consider it a vintage piece, but a well established and cherished member of your family! Nice old sporter 03's and such with an older scope are those rifles that bring the hunting memories flooding back!

Hang on to that piece!
