Recently purchased a 1953 M70 270 (from 24hr campfire, thanks waterbug) and I'm thinking about putting a Leupold 2.5-8 or 3.5-10 on it. I've got a couple 3.5-10x40's and they look a bit big when held up alongside the rifle. If anyone here has a pic of their pre-64 with a 2.5-8 on it, I'd love to see it.
Thanks in advance.

It's a terrible picture of the rifle/scope combo...sorry. 1958 series Alaskan with 2.5x8 Leupold. IMHO that's the perfect scope for that rifle. Lot's of eye relief and the size isn't overbearing. That scopes on my personal .270 right now.

Bt53 - Thanks for the picture. The size looks right even if it's not the best picture of the rifle/scope. I was also wondering about the gloss finish as opposed to matte. I've got a 3.5-10 in each and neither matches the rifle very well. Looks like the gloss finish would blend a little better than the matte, though.

My one rifle in this combo is a 1958 that started out in life as a 30/06 then was rebarreled to 257WBY and the whole thing given a high gloss finish. Looks great with its gloss Loopy 4.5-14x40 but I am guessing this is not quite what you are looking for

I have pics but can't post. A 2.5-8 fits with Leup 2 piece with windage rear base and low rings. Also with Talley LW lows.
I have had 2.5-8's on numerous pre 64's.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Not a 2.5-8x. Just the old fashioned 4x, but I enjoy seeing this rifle.

Sorry for "too much information", but here are some pre 64 M70's, if you look close they mostly have either leupy DD's or talley lwts, scopes are fixed 4xs and one fixed 6x along with 2x7's and 3x9x40's.

Thanks to everybody for the pictures. As much as I'd like to have a 3.5-10, the 2.5-8 just looks better on these guns. Noticed that a few folks mentioned Talley LW's, always used Leupold mounts but those sure are sharp. Here ya go...270 FW That's exactly what I'm looking for. Are those medium rings and if so, are they needed for bolt clearance?

Whichever X range you choose, I think the Gloss scopes look by far the best on these.
Great thread, NICE pictures. Someday I will sit down and get photos of mine up here.
