I own a Colt 1908 25ACP, the "vest pocket" gun. Cute little thing, finely fitted and finished just like an old watch.
I also own a Benchmade auto-axis 5500.
Handling them both today I got the feeling that if I were ever in dire straits, I'd rather have the knife.

make the choices a Browning HP or a Randall #1, and it would be more interesting. Also would be more like the choice I would be making.

If distance is up close, the knife. If the gun is in grabing distance, its gone. Why not carry both?

25 ACP, still better than a sharp pig sticker.

Gun, I don't want them to get within arms length of me. Then you will need something better than a 25 ACP. The knife will inflick much greater wound trauma than will the 25
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

a fellow I used to know (I avoid him now) shot himself in the stomach with a 25 acp, it cost him $30K in hospital bills and he had to wear a colostomy bag for a while, but he is still with us, a fellow in Reno where I used to live in 78 decided to kill his wife and then commit suicide with a 25, he shot her in the head at an angle and the bullet creased her skull but did not penetrate, he put the gun to his ear which worked better for him. a 22LR is better I think

What is the size of the hole in the person with either. Area is pretty easy when talking about a circle (.25), but how much open area is there with the knife? What type of wound is it, does it close up when the knife is removed or close as the bullet travels in. How deep will the bullet travel compared to the depth of the knife? Just some of the things I think about when I'm thinking of what's better.
eta: the above is just some of what I'd consider. Probably more than that though is the type of wound at what distance. If I can get pretty much a hole in a person without that person being in arms reach I'd be happier than if I had to touch the person to inflict damage.

Didn't your momma teach you about bringing knives to gunfights? I suppose if you are stuck in the woods the knife is better than a .25 acp, but for everything else I'd take the gun. I realize a knife may do more damage at contact distance, but the trick is to stay out of contact distance and project the force with the gun. Plus, the bad guy may decide to go away rather than take incoming.

I bet if you post your 'supposition' over on "Knives And Blades" you may receive more sympathetic and concurring responses.

I always wondered how this round would perform from something like a Walter P22, may be the longer barrel along with a good bullet would help?

Use the knife first and the .25 as your backup if needed.

I would not want to have just a 25ACP between me and a bad guy.
That said, We have, resting peacefully in our local cemetery, a fine young Police Officer. Wade Feldner was his name, local DARE officer, very active and effective with the youth of our small county. Extremely well liked by young and old alike.
A 14 year old piece of schitt out of Boise, in a stolen car put him down with a 25 auto despite body armor. Google "Bobby Moore"! GRRRRRR
The young officer was admittedly poorly trained. He failed to remain vigilant because of the perp's age.
When the officer leaned into the car window to talk to the perp, he caught a round to the face and another in the armpit to the heart as he fell away from the car. DRT
[bleep] kid "Just wanted to see what it felt like to shoot a cop." His mother had helped him to get the gun because he needed it to hang with the gang.

I know a cop who wasn't wearing armor and got center punched in the chest with a .25. DOA at the hospital.
