I thought my Savage collecting career was going to be shortlived and I could stop at 4 or 5,but then....
Here's what I found. Its a 1899 takedown in 250-3000 and when I aged it it turns out the serial number makes it a 1915. The gun has been expertly refinished but the wood matches. No cracks or dings. Checkering may have been recut but it doesnt appear to be. Perchbelly stock and steel buttplate. Lettering is as sharp as the day it left the factory. Bore is close to perfect. I ran 10 rounds through it today and it functions perfectly.
Downside is the lever was reblued at the same time as the rest of the gun. I'm not interested in monetary value but just how rare a bird is this? From everything I've ever read 1915 is the first year for the .250 and should be close to the end of the 1899's.
I like it here. They let me swear.

Not like it's 1 of a very small group. It's been refinished so it's a shooter. If it shoots well, be happy.

Happy I shall be. It's a real treat to shoot something 95 years old in that condition. I'm going to build some nice mild loads with 85 grain Speers and enjoy the heck out of this one.

Nice find but all you fellas on here are a bad influence. I'm having a rough time convincing myself there really is a life after Savage...LGF

Can anyone answer the question of how many .250-3000 Savages were made in the first year of production for that cartridge?
I have a good friend with the same year rifle as POPGUN and like him I don't care about the value, just the number made.
The Chosin Few November to December 1950, Korea. I'm not one of the Chosin Few but no more remarkable group of Americans ever existed.

No, don't think anybody has that data except the Savage historian, and he'd have to go through the ledgers one page at a time to add them up.
One of the types of info we'll never see, sadly.
