Jorge and Moe just got back from Zim. They had a great time, although Jorge got chewed on a bit by a leopard. He tried for a heart shot, got one or both shoulders (I'm not sure - I just had one conversation with him,) and then they had to track him in the failing light. Jorge saw a large clot of blood and then saw a blur coming at him from about 20 feet away. The PH got one round into it before it hit Jorge. Moe was holding the lights. The cat grabbed Jorge by the leg and started chewing and trying to get higher...Jorge got it off his leg so the PH could shoot again, but got his arm bit and scratched up doing so. From what Moe said, Jorge shouted, "That was f.....g great!" And then fell over. Not a faint, as he was still conscious - just the effect of the adrenaline running out. They cleaned him up the best they could on the spot, loaded up the cat and went back to camp where they worked on his wounds some more with antiseptic/antibiotic cream after he washed them out with soap and water. Jorge also had some oral antibiotics and he took several of those. The next day, they drove a half day to the nearest clinic, where chickens were running around inside and there was an open bag of feed. They has no electricity, so they used their spotlights. The doctor took a tongue depressor, wrapped a bunch of gauze around it, dipped it in a bottle of iodine and proceed to scrape and scrub the crap out of each wound, and some were pretty deep. Jorge tells me he would rather face another leopard than that doctor. He also got two huge shots of penicillin, one in each cheek. Moe said Jorge looked someone had worked him over when he came out of the clinic. Not physically marked, just totally drained and pale. Jorge was back hunting in 2 days and took a hippo, an elephant with 50 lb tusks as well as a nice Cape buffalo bull.

Wow! what a story. I'm glad the old grumpy guy is making a recovery. His leg looks like it is swelling already. If you talk to him again, tell him I wish him well.

I would say from the size of that leopard that he was a very lucky man...it could have caused some REALLY serious damage...

I am glad that turned out all right. It will make a good story to go along with the leopard mount when he gets back home.

Wow. That's taking "chicks dig scars" a bit too far. Glad he is okay, hope he heals with no problems.

Wow! George knows how to earn stripes! Glad he came out OK,and kudos for picking up the pieces and continuing the hunt....he may never admit it, but I'll bet he thinks the whole thing was pretty neat, but does not want a repeat performance.....!Good for George!

Okay, that's just cool as hell. He'll be impossible to live with now! But seriously, that's about the best trophy pic I've seen in this forum. Contrats, Jorge! - Tom

Sorry to hear he got beaten up but it sounds like the doc knew exactly what he was doing.... the infections go deep and the only way to clean them out properly is to go deeper still. Leopard wounds don't just hurt, they fekcin' hurt and what's more, they keep fekcin' hurting for a very long time.... the good news is they don't usually scar much if at all. Also a good example why I reckon it's a good idea to wear jeans and a leather jacket on a cat follow up:

He was wearing long pants, but they got torn up and they cut them to get to the wounds to clean them before the trophy pictures.
Jorge said this morning that parts of his calf and knee are still numb. His local doc said that was normal due to nerve damage and that most of the feeling should come back - hopefully.
He also commented on how strong that cat was, as he held it by the ears and kept it from climbing up his body to use its back legs. He was glad he had kept himself on both cardio and strength training.

The longer it stay's numb for him the better because when that numbness goes away, the wounds start hunrting...... a lot and for a long time! He really does have my sympathy.
I've only been scratched up once and the wounds were relatively light but the pain is an absolute bustard.
Jeans and a leather jacket won't give you anywhere near 100& protection but they will slow him down a bit and I personally reckon that's a lot better than wearing thin cotton that don't give any protection at all.

That'll make for some cool stories, and a good looking cat, to boot! Now, what I'd like to know is, was he packing a PF, or CRF rifles? Jeff
